Omg, the wife forced me to drive to Mt. Airy because it was a sushi spot we haven’t had in the area. I want to say I handled it like a man and didnt complain the entire 45 minute drive.. anyway… well worth it. We got the gyoza as an appetizer, wife got the build your own poke bowl, I got the thirsy souls roll and a side of noodles. When I tell you the only think not good was my attitude for the drive. But dont fret it was much better once I started tasting the food. Raven our waiter was amazing. Food service and all was great! Next trip will be all smiles i promise!

Cute little Japanese restaurant near Mt Airy downtown. Huge selection of rolls and sushi, hibachi. Full bar with cocktails, beer, wine and sake. Portions are good for the price. We did sharable appetizers and it was plenty of food for us. Josie, was very friendly and gave great recommendations for food and other things to do in the area. The decor was beautiful, I love all the art and kimonos.

We (party of 4) arrived at 6:15 on my daughter’s birthday to try for the first time, after it was recommended by a friend. It took several minutes to be greeted by the host, who then acted as if we were bothering her. She told us it would be a 30 minute wait since we did not have a reservation, which wasn’t too long and completely understandable even though there were several empty tables. She took our phone number and said she would call when a table was open. We sat in our car for the wait because there was not really any room to wait inside. After 45 minutes, our daughter decided to just pick another place to eat. It is now 3.5 hours later and we’ve still not heard from this restaurant so I guess they just really didn’t want our business. We will not be giving them a second chance. Just letting everybody know, make a reservation or stand inside to wait, otherwise they will just forget about you.

We sat at the cool bar. They have 2. We got gyoza for an appetizer and we shared a bowl called Guaca-Poke. Both very good. Both shareable. Josie was very friendly and helpful. We went early on a Saturday. Josie said it gets very busy.

On 11-1-25, my wife and I visited Kazoku looking to have a pleasant night out. The hostess and the server were unfriendly. The server walked us to the sushi bar, removed the dirty dishes from a previous patron, then came back with menus and silverware and placed them directly on the dirty bar top without cleaning it. (She had just removed the dirty dishes.) We asked her to wipe it down, she gave us attitude. Then went and got some cloth and did a lousy job wiping it down. We asked her to wipe more because there was still food and sticky stuff present. Reluctantly, she wiped some more. Then, she threw down some napkins and said we could wipe it up if we wanted it dry and walked away. She really said this, and she really did this! I started wiping the bar top before coming to my senses. We’re coming out to spend a lot of money and to be served, not sit in filth and be treated poorly by the staff. So, we left. We went to the Angry Troll instead. The service there was great! Clean table, friendly server, and the food was great, too. Kazoku is slipping. It used to be amazing! But our last few experiences have just gotten worse and worse to where (last night) we had to leave because we were being treated so poorly.

Probably the best Japanese restaurant in Mt Airy. Everything is very good. Our service was wonderful. Everyone was very accommodating. The cocktail menu is a little limited but what they have is very good. Sushi is really good just wish it was bigger portions. Overall it was a very good experience. Strongly recommend.
