They are so nice here but they definitely need pastry training. Locals rave about it but I’ve received five different bakery items from here through various local gatherings and friends. I try them, hoping at least one will be edible, and I can’t force myself to eat more than a single bite. The cakes are extra dense, soggy, and lack flavor; the frosting is extra super disgustingly sweet—again without flavor. Proper frosting should have flavor: it’s more than just whipped sugar. Today, I was given a soggy, sticky mound of what looks like a toffee cone with at least a full cup of white frosting crammed inside. I was told it was “cheesecake” but it is only extra sweet whipped sugar. Cheesecake frosting should be primarily whipped cream cheese with a little hint of powdered sugar, salt, and butter. It should be tart to cut the sweetness of the toffee. It should NOT be sweeter than the toffee. Whatever this sticky glob is, one bite gave me an instant headache. I don’t understand who would want or be able to eat this. Not only does it taste disgustingly sweet, it’s at least 4x bigger than it should be for the toffee to retain its shape and crunch. Likewise, the frosting would retain its shape (and not cause headaches) if it was made properly. Poor execution.

Kay did an incredible job with our wedding cake. (semi naked cake with waterfall of blue flowers, vanilla with strawberries inside) Delivered on time, professional and so kind. Plus tasted so good!

Don’t waste your money on fake fast food.
Go to Kay’s for a REAL meal for the same price. The staff are friendly and the food is just like mom use to make. For breakfast and lunch, this is the place to go in Columbia. They also do cakes and have bakery item for sale (Their brownies are amazing).
Breakfast is served to order and burgers and sandwiches are available for lunch. The sides are typically the rotating fair, including red beans and rice, pasta salad and coleslaw. It all depends on the day of the week and the “Special”. Fries and tots seem to always be available. Fridays- they have Fried catfish and on some days even offer fish tacos.
The atmosphere is very hometown. Lots of local art and knick knacks. Like I said, Kay’s is also a bakery and bake cakes and pies for other local restaurants on premises, so half of the establishment is dedicated to the bakery side.
It’s located not to far from the square, so it’s easy to find. Located centrally in Columbia, KY.

Eat here! Bring all your friends and family! Family dining at its absolute best. Incredible and personable service from Kay herself. Affordable and tasty food. Everything you want Breakfast and lunch to be, served with a smile. Also we got a sample of red beans and rice, the flavor was so good! Dining room is lined with cute artwork, and they have bakery items on display that look delicious.

I would give this place a 5 star review but having to wait 45 min for our breakfast when we were there only ones there is just too long. The waitress was right there with more coffee but she needs to smile more.
