It was 58 degrees outside and they had all the doors open. Even though we were seated inside, it was freezing the entire time, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the evening.
To make matters worse, two younger girls were seated about 12 inches away from us, speaking loudly about very personal topics. I could barely hear my husband talking across from me. The atmosphere just didn’t feel comfortable or elevated like I expected.
Food-wise:
• The KFC chicken was actually great.
• My drink was very good.
• The sushi was okay.
• The Wagyu stir fry rice, which came highly recommended, was unfortunately underwhelming and not very good at all.
Overall, I left feeling super disappointed. It won’t be on my list to return, which is a bummer because I really wanted to love it!
Our server Lisa truly made the night. Her service was some of the best I’ve ever had — she gave great recommendations, explained everything perfectly, kept the pacing smooth, and even made sure we had enough table space for all the plates we ordered. She made us feel so taken care of.
Overall such a beautiful, delicious, and memorable dinner. We’ll absolutely be back!
From the moment we arrived, the ambiance set a delightful tone. The elevator ride to the third level felt like the beginning of a special outing, and we were warmly greeted by the host and manager. Upon being seated, we were immediately impressed by the thoughtful design and attention to detail in the decor—every piece of furniture and fixture added to the restaurant’s charm.
Briana quickly became a highlight of our evening. Her warm demeanor and extensive knowledge transformed our dining experience. She expertly guided us through the menu, making tailored recommendations for each course. Her passion for the food was evident as she explained the dishes with enthusiasm, ensuring we felt confident in our choices.
Adding to the experience was Brian, the wine sommelier, who provided professional service by opening our wine at the table and offering valuable insights into our selection.
Overall, the combination of exceptional service, culinary creativity, and impressive wine and cocktail offerings made for a truly memorable evening. Kudos to the entire team at Kauboi, and a heartfelt thank you to Briana and Brian for making our visit so special! Bravo!
The sushi here is awesome and paired with their craft cocktails, and you’ve got a winning combo. Great ambiance, great food, and an overall elevated experience. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion!
Our waitress mentioned they offer an outdoor dining experience on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights (not Sundays), and we can’t wait to come back to enjoy that. Between the amazing food, the cool atmosphere, and the overall experience, this new spot is a must-visit in Scottsdale.
Dishes had great flavor, well portioned and good presentation
Cocktails were solid, a touch on the sweet side, which is probably great for the typical customer in Old town
Only disappointing drink was the mango/miso which was neither.
The hostess was welcoming, and the servers were polished, attentive, and friendly (loved our Scottish server) something that feels rare these days. The space itself is absolutely stunning. Every detail feels intentional and elevated. It’s elegant, sexy, and exactly the type of vibe Old Town Scottsdale has been missing. The outdoor area is beyond gorgeous and definitely one of the highlights.
We tried a mix of dishes: the Kauboi salad, bluefin crispy rice, garlic edamame, crispy chicken wings, and a few sushi rolls (Sonora Sunset, Camelback Cactus Roll, and Saguaro Roll). The food leaned a bit salty and definitely felt pricey for the portions, but still tasty overall. At the end of the day, you’re paying for both the atmosphere and the experience, and I’d say it’s worth it.
All in all, Kauboi is setting a new tone for Old Town, and I will absolutely be coming back.
