His positive attitude and sense of humor really stood out and added to the overall atmosphere of the restaurant!
As for the food – 3 Stars – it didn’t quite meet expectations. I ordered my steak medium, and unfortunately it was delivered rare and had to be sent back. The steak was acceptable once remade, but nothing stood out enough to make it memorable. The dinner rolls were also disappointing and looked like something you’d buy pre-packaged at a grocery store, which was unexpected for a steakhouse.
There’s definitely room for improvement, especially when it comes to getting temperatures right and elevating the overall food quality.
1 – Months ago you could get an 8oz filet with a lobster tail for $110 ($45+65). Now it’s labeled as “Market Price” and came in at $149. Insane.
2 – Bread service was an amazing assortment of delicious breads. Now? Boring flavorless dry crumbly dinner rolls.
3 – The last two times I had the filet (medium rare) it was a dry and gritty texture which in my opinion suggests it’s either old or their steaks are being frozen/thawed, neither of which is acceptable for a good steakhouse.
4 – They removed the Crab Oscar enhancement. I’ve never been to a nice steakhouse that doesn’t have a Crab Oscar. Ever. If you want it you need to pay for their new “Filet Oscar” for $80. My guess is whoever was tasked with cutting corners thought “Gee, no one will notice if we only offer an Oscar on our smallest cut! Cha-ching!”
5 – The sides are suspiciously still $9. Then they arrive at the table and you find out why. The mashed potatoes that used to be able to serve 3+ people with leftovers now looks like a personal side for 1, maybe 2 people. You can get a 10lb bag of russets for like what, $5? And you’re skimping on mashed potatoes? Really? I have second hand embarrassment for Katherine’s at this point.
6 – No corn/creamed corn side anymore. Again, what steakhouse in their right mind doesn’t have this?
7 – Their best dessert was the “Molten chocolate lava cake”. False advertising now. There’s nothing “Molten” or “Lava” about it. It used to be gooey dark chocolate salty/sweet deliciousness. Now it’s like the most worthless tiny little solid brownie cake thing that honestly tastes like they pulled it out of the Wal-Mart frozen desserts section.
Anyway, congrats on the new changes. I won’t be back. And in my opinion with what seems like ultra-tight slots that never pay anymore, I’ll gleefully say goodbye to “Legend” status next year, too.
The service at this restaurant was good – the hostesses were friendly and our main server, Nimer, was professional, efficient, and attentive throughout the evening. The one drawback to the service (not towards one individual), was that I was slightly disappointed that the restaurant didn’t acknowledge it was our birthdays…yes, I specified this in our reservation. Not to mention, I’m used to restaurants, especially ones that focus on “fine dining,” asking or verifying that customers are(n’t) celebrating anything during that visit. Obviously I didn’t lose sleep over this, but I figured it was still worth mentioning.
For our food, we ordered the Lobster Bisque, Maryland Crab Cakes, and Super Lump Crab Cocktail for our appetizers; Mac and Cheese and Broccoli for our sides; and Colorado Lamb Chops and 16-oz Ribeye for our main entrées. We ordered the Grand Marnier Soufflé for our dessert at the beginning when we placed our entire order; however, due to a slight oversight on the restaurant, we didn’t get to try it – they forgot to place the order in the system at the beginning. Needless to say, we were so full that we probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much…so yes, I was appreciative of the fact that they forgot to place the order, and contrary to the saying, there’s NOT always room for dessert. Everything we ordered was notable; however, I felt the steak and mac and cheese were mediocre. The steak wasn’t awful by any means but I didn’t feel the beef quality was as good as I thought it would be…though, the seasoning and temperature were adequate. The star performers for that evening were the lamb chops, broccoli, and crab cocktail.
The prices are extremely reasonable at this restaurant. A bottle of Cabernet cost us $28 which normally would cost at least 60% more in LV which is astonishing for Mesquite residents or visitors. The restaurant décor and lighting provides a rustic yet elegant look/feel which was a comforting experience. The biggest negative for me was that this business allows customers to bring in pets/animals (someone brought a dog in a baby stroller while we were eating). Whereas, I have minimal issues when businesses allow this if the seating arrangements were outside, but since there are people in this country that have allergies to animals, including a family member of mine, I’m not a fan of supporting businesses that allow this. Not to mention, it’s already gross to see human hair in your food…why double that chance in having animal hair as well? Also, the tables and chairs were very close to each other in this restaurant which can make navigating tough for some folks – I watched a few chairs/customers get bumped from other people walking by several times.
Overall, I liked the experience, as depicted in my 4-star rating…and I’ll even recommend this restaurant to residents who have never been here; to visitors staying on this property, and for folks that are planning on just passing through this city. For my family and I, I don’t see us trying this restaurant again down the road; I have a difficult time supporting businesses that allow animals within the same vicinity of where I am eating…especially when I’m paying a certain amount of money for my experience.
