Had a quick meal with my son the other night!
Small place, but similar size in Tokyo were we just spent two weeks prior to arriving in SF!
Noodles and broth was decent, the slices of pork wasn’t up to par!
We were planning to go to Mensho Tokyo of SF but there was line and we didn’t want to wait!
Prices was reasonable.

Our family came here right before the Harry Potter show at the Curran. The food was delicious! Portions were solid. Tan Tan ramen is highly recommended amongst the ramen choices. You won’t be disappointed. The chicken tonkatsu bento was overflowing with chicken. Yum!

First off, if you have a shellfish allergy, this place isn’t for you. We have hit up quite a few noodles in the area and can still find shops where shellfish isn’t involved in every aspect. Even the chicken was a no-go because the the crust contained it. Besides this, I didn’t find the broth itself that flavorful. I did have the veggie option, however, and I heard the signature dish is crazy delicious.

Very tasty ramen. We got our food on time but billing took some time. But taste of food takes over the delay. One of the best ramen place. Quantiy is great. The bowls are huge.Staff is very friendly. I took Katanaya Ramen with extra Kimichi. It was medium spicy and yummy.

This place is on basement and can be hard to find. It is rustic with Japanese style interior that resemble shops in Okinawa. Staffs were friendly but service was very slow despite they weren’t full house. I had tonkatsu ramen, the noodle was springy with good texture but the soup was meh.. the charsiu and garnish couldn’t help much too.

We had Katanaya ramen with salt flavor, BBQ pork ramen with miso flavor, karaage, and beer for dinner. Everything seemed ready to heat again for quick serving. The ramen tasted like instant noodles for us. Fried chicken’s batter coated sloppy , although chicken was tender. The sliced BBQ pork were too chewy. I thought it’s not good enough for Asian.

See the sign and the traditional Japanese drapery and walk down the steps into the restaurant. Apparently known for pork belly ramen, I opted for miso soup, seaweed salad and hot tea. I thought the food was delicious and nutritious, warming me up before the cold walk home. The service was ok which brings the rating down to three stars.

Went at very late at night, the restaurant was still busy. But they accommodate guests very fast. Ordered the simplest dish. the broth is flavorful, bbq meat is a little on the dry side, but still tasty, the egg is cooked perfect. The only thing I would change is the noodle can be cooked one minute longer. It is too hard for my like, but maybe someone else like it that way.

Katana Ya does have one vegan options for ramen and when you are stuck in this part of town when your other vegan ramen options are too far, closed, or too busy, Katana Ya fits the bill and does a pretty darn good job.
Pretty much you have to order their vegetarian ramen with SOBA NOODLES and no egg. Confirm with the waitress, but they do have a veggie broth and can add different spice levels.
I shall say, this is the ONLY restaurant I’ve been to in San Francisco that truly can deliver a Spicy as Hades dish. Their “habanero” level spice is unlike any habanero I have eaten. I love spicy food and eat many things with ghost peppers and Carolina Reaper. This “habanero” ramen made my nose run and was very tasty.
The broth can be a little bland without the spice but they give a ton of great veggies and the bowl is huge. For San Francisco, the prices are great and I found myself going back a few times during my travels. The staff was always very kind and were patient and not upset when I sent back a bowl for having the wrong noodles.
Note, this restaurant is in the basement right next to another ramen place that only uses egg noodles so don’t go there if you’re vegan.

Good place, I’d definitely come back. It’s kind of dark in there and small but the gyoza was great and the person I was with also liked their ramen. Best place for ramen in the neighborhood by far and it’s in a pretty good location, walking distance from art galleries and other cool things. Staff is nice and helpful.
