Very good Greek food! The triple spread platter was fantastic and I loved my shrimp orzoto. My husband had the pork shoulder which was also amazing. My drink was great too: not too sweet or sour. Just the right mix! I will definitely come back.

LOCATION HAS CLOSED…SORRY FOLKS. Visited restaurant on a busy Thursday night with a group of six. Restaurant is in the new Hotel At University of Maryland. We ordered a number of side dishes: cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, olives, tzatziki, hummus, fried eggplant, and flatbreads. All were excellent. The best part of being in a large group is trying the lamb shoulder (feeds 6-8). This was presented to us prior to preparing the platter in which the lamb was shredded and served with a salad of quinoa, cucumber and pomegranate… despite making a truly heroic effort, our group of six concluded that this platter would easily serve eight or more people! It was so delicious! Great meal! Service was excellent. I have to go back and try the lamb shoulder again soon…

The lamb gyro is fantastic! And the lunch combo is a great choice. Any gyro, an appetizer, and a drink for $14.

Great food and great drinks. Really good hangout spot. Good for official meetings. It’s always a good time here. Spreads are great. Lamb shanks are to die for. Baklava is good too. My only complain is that the portion is too small compare to the price. But other than that, I would recommend this place to everyone.

This resting restaurant is great for tapas. They also have a great brunch menu. With all kinds of French toast and waffles. The staff is friendly and attentive. The decor and ambiance are phenomenal. It wasn’t crowded the few times I’ve went. They also offer outdoor seating on a really nice patio.

There are better places
We were here on a Friday evening. Nice ambiance and the food is just ok, nothing great not worth the price. We order beer, cocktails and food. They did not have a bartender. The two waiters in our section would go make the drinks when ever they get a chance. That was not cool. Our cocktails came to the table after the main dish was placed on the table. Which was about 20 or 30 minutes after ordering, do these guys know how to run a restaurant? I do not blame the waiters, they did their best. The management is responsible if a restaurant is not able to function on a Friday evening with less than half the tables occupied. Not going back here if I can help it.

I have been to Kapnos Taverna a handful of times in College Park, and I have not had a bad experience yet. I have always gone during lunch and have ordered their Express Lunch option. For $16 you get a side, a gyro of your choice, and a beverage. My food has always been delicious and flavorful, and you receive a good lunch portion. This is probably my favorite restaurant in College Park.

Kapnos offers a relaxing retreat from the hustle and bustle of the UMD campus and high-traffic neighborhood. With a parking garage right around the corner and some street parking for the thrifty, this place is not too difficult to get to.
As you walk in the door, multiple friendly hosts offered my friends and I the recommendation of taking advantage of their happy hour near the bar. We happily obliged. The bartenders were friendly, but did not operate at the best speeds considering the restaurant wasn’t crowded. The selection of drinks were standard and didn’t stand out.
The happy hour menu seems like a good deal at first. When the employees explain the price difference between the happy hour fares and standard dinner, you’d quickly note that some of the meze-style dish prices are cut almost in half. However, this feeling of a great deal is promptly destroyed when you see portion sizes of two bites each.
For being located next to a university, this restaurant takes advantage of the local student body a potential lack of Greek food alternatives for the area. Overall, every dish has robust flavoring that’ll make your taste-buds scream with joy. However, employees shouldn’t tell customers that the plates are larger than tapas.
