We have visited Kao twice during our two week stay studying in Arequipa. It has exceeded our expectations both times.

This is mostly thanks to Luiz who is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He was excellent with dietary requirements and really made a difference with his explanations of the menu and drinks.

The food is excellent – we had the fantastic fresh ceviche and the trout tartar. I tried cuy for the first time (not sure it’s for me), but the shrimp dish I had the first time was incredible, maybe I should have had that again.

The cocktails are really good!
Only thing I would say is the wine is very overpriced, but expected in a restaurant.

Visited Kao on mine and my husband’s 2nd night in Arequipa. Absolutely loved everything about this spot so much that we had to come again on our final night of our 3 day trip to this city.

Over the 2 nights we had the Challwa Boa, Bonito Roll, Corvina with Amazon Curry Rice, Pakucha Charki & Peanut Butter Noodles, Curry Majeño, Kurry from the Valley and the Sea. (The Corvina was my favorite but everything was great.) For drinks, I paired the Corvina with the Kante and my husband had the Pad Thai Soul with the Alpaca. We were both very happy with our picks and fans of each others drinks.

We had two desserts over the 2 nights. The Q’Ello Phuyu and the Ko-Mousse were each divine and totally unique. I highly recommend both!

I really enjoyed the design and layout to the space. The open-concept kitchen allows you to have a sneak peak to the magic happening to make these incredible dishes. I felt very welcomed and cared for on each of our visits. Our server, Luis, guided us through the menu, helping us with options paced on dietary restrictions and preferences. The entire staff were very helpful and friendly.

The blend of flavors found in the meals and beverages, service, atmosphere was phenomenal. I know if I lived here, we would be regulars. Do yourself a favor and go enjoy this delicious food.

The restaurant is very nice designed. The staff is extremely friendly including the kitchen staff. But the taste of the dishes is not meeting the expectations.
Since this is a Thai fusion restaurant we would have expected more taste surprises with spicier food.
All in all they really try but taste remains more important than looks.
The cocktails tasted very good

My friend and I each had the tasting menu with wine pairing, but the portions of everything were quite small. The food was delicious, but we finished still hungry. The wine pairing consisted of a single-serving MINI bottle of white shared between two of us, and the same with a mini bottle of red, plus a local dessert wine. To their credit, they did bring us an extra glass of red wine when we complained. The service was excellent, as were the descriptions of each dish. I hope that they improve the portion sizes and offer more wines for the pairing in the future.

Excellent atmosphere, food and staff!

Outdoor and indoor seating are available. The bao buns and pad thai were excellent.

You can easily reserve online. Make sure to reserve as it can be really busy and also not many seats available.

The staff speaks English. Menu also in English available.

There are many vegetarian options available.

My mom back in Belgium can make a mean ceviche, thats why I was curious to try it out here in Arequipa. Luìs recommended me with the Puka Ceviche and it was awesome. Would really recommend if you want to try something new. Amazing fusion and the service was great.

I highly recommend this restaurant. We tried the pachamanka, green curry ceviche, octopus dish, green curry, and bao buns. They did an excellent job blending Peruvian and Thai flavors.
The ceviche had the bright acidity of a traditional ceviche with a hint of green curry that wasn’t overpowering, although it could have been marinated in the sauce a little longer. The octopus was cooked perfectly, and the mashed potatoes paired with it were savory and nutty, which worked really well together.
The green curry was probably one of the best interpretations I’ve had, and the sauce for the pachamanka was fragrant and well balanced. I personally didn’t care much for the bao bun, but the flavors were still well executed. All of the non-alcoholic drinks were very well made.
I would definitely come back again.

Our best dining experience in Arequipa!

I have a shellfish allergy and they were extremely thorough in making sure I was comfortable, constantly checking with the kitchen to make sure I wouldn’t perish.

Our server Frank was extremely attentive and made some great recommendations for cocktails and dishes.

A must try! Probably won’t find anything like Kao anywhere else.

We go there for the delicious maracuya sour and always sit in the bar at a table by the window. The restaurant is beautiful but very formal so we sit in the bar. Today we went and were told we couldn’t sit there because there are staff at the table. I thought that paying customers are more important than staff on their break but not here. Still a good place for food and Maracuya sour !
