My family and I had a disappointing experience at Kanki on Old Wake Forest Rd in Raleigh while celebrating my grandson’s birthday. The grill was not clean. Our party included five adults and four children, but only 3 adults ordered food. Our bill was over $250, yet our service was poor and automatic gratuity of 18% was added to our bill, removing our ability to tip based on the service actually received.
The billing process was confusing, and unlike our previous five visits, we were not allowed to substitute certain meats in the combination entrées. When we spoke with the manager, she did not provide a helpful or reasonable explanation, which led two adults in our party to decide not to order at all. This lack of consistency was disappointing.
The chef seemed unsure about the proper cook time for scallops—they were nearly overcooked—and he introduced himself under two different names, which added to the confusion. Some of his hibachi tricks and presentation also needed improvement. While the food itself tasted good, his responses came across as a bit sarcastic.
Overall, this experience did not meet the standards we’ve come to expect from Kanki. The automatic gratuity was not earned, especially considering we had three separate tickets. Treating our party as a large group just to add a tip—and then asking for more—felt inappropriate. My grandson deserved a much a better birthday dinner. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this Kanki location.

I enjoyed my meal. I had the vegetable entree and everything was cooked just right. They also serve virgin Pina Coladas there. Our chef was extremely funny and kept me laughing. Overall, I would give it a thumbs up. Btw, I went there on a Thursday evening and it was packed.

Very disappointed with our visit. I had to ask for plasticware four times before receiving it. I’m a vegetarian and specifically requested no egg, but egg was still added to my food.

I come here often, great hibachi. First time I placed a pick up order – I go in I check it I notice I’m missing my vegetables which were on the order, the staff member – Chi takes my order back there then comes back and says “the order is fixed” I arrive home and plate my meal and there’s 0 veggies. I was very disappointed. Steak and shrimp are always good but I love my zucchini and mushrooms!

This is a great restaurant pretty much for any occasion, date night, and family outings! They service is always great. Wait times can be lengthy at times, but in my opinion, the experience is well worth the wait.

The food is always good here but we did notice there wasnt as much as there uses to be. We were there with a reservation of 8:30pm and we waited for a while until our food was cooked. I dont know why but it did take a bit of time. But like I said its always good. And the drinks pack a punch.

Amazing ambience for our Valentine’s weekend date night (Friday 2/11) our table consisited of 3 families but still felt as if my husband and I were the only ones there! Hibachi type with Pepsi products – I enjoyed sierra mist and hubby had pink lemonade. Steak and steak and chicken. If you’ve never had the hibachi experience, please give it a try. Our chef was awesome!
