Amazing spot for plate lunch before a round at Pukalani Golf Club (down the road). They have a great website with menu and option to order online for pick up which was what we did. Online ordering also offers modifications/add ons. I got the mini size Ono ala Kalei with rice and salad (no upcharge) which came with one piece of ono and was so ‘Ono! My husband got a full size moschiko chicken and enjoyed it, I’d say to upgrade to hurricane style on the chicken to add a bit of sauciness. The restaurant is located in a complex with Foodland etc, they had air conditioned seating inside and tables/chairs outside facing a parking lot. Atmosphere maybe not a romantic date but fine for grab n go. They seemed to offer a daily deal for $6 (today was moschiko chicken and fried rice), didn’t see the option on the online form but if you’re in the neighbourhood for cheap eats!

Chill spot with a mix of Hawaiian local food, Asian, and burgers. They also have many items for breakfast. The Upcountry Saimin was slammin. The Seared Ahi Burger was also really good…and you’ll never get one for $13 anywhere else on the island!

While visiting friends who live in Pukalani, we decided to check out this spot with nice local treats and delicious Hawaiian Food.

Welcome to Kalei’s LunchBox!

My friends don’t eat meat, so we went for a rack of their grilled Ono sandwiches and two orders of Hurricane deep friend Brussel sprouts without meat, and everything was delicious.

They have a super Loco Moco with 3 patties on it that I definitely want to come back for. One of the neighboring tables ordered one of the breaded teriyaki pork plates which looked beautifully dusted with a light crispy breading and a teriyaki sauce drizzle on the already teriyaki marinated meat. I was very interested in trying that too (which they offer with lightly breaded, crispy beef or crispy pork), but we had more than enough food to satisfy the craving.

Service was quick and friendly. There were two registers and helpers doing a great job of handling orders in person and taking orders and payment over the phone.

This place must be great as we saw loads of people ordering over the phone and coming in to pick up orders, not to mention the loads of local customers eating inside.

We ran into some friends who were here for a big to go order to take home to their family and they said they love Kalei’s.

We had a lovely experience and are definitely looking forward to our next visit.

If you happen to be up country or interested in making a detour from the beach. I highly recommend a stop into Kalei’s Lunchbox for a delicious spread of Hawaiian treats, meat, seafood, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review and hope you have an amazing meal!

We stopped at the Pukalani location on the way to Haleakala. The Maui Lani Kalei’s Lunchbox location is much better than this one.

It took us about 25 minutes to get our food. The kitchen appeared a bit disorganized.

Everything we ordered (except the salad) was much too salty. Even the kids complained about the salt level. We couldn’t finish anything except the salad.

The Loco Moco was overcooked and dry. The beef patties were much too salty. They were skimpy on the gravy. When we asked for more gravy, they tried to charge us extra, until we explained the loco moco was far too dry and inedible.

The Mahi Ala Kalei was also too salty. The fish was overcooked. Did not taste as good as it sounded.

The saimin was also too salty. The noodles weren’t as chewy as the Maui Lani location. This location gave one large fatty piece pork in the saimin. The Maui Lani location gave well-seasoned char siu (Chinese BBQ pork) pieces already cut up.

The mac salad had much too much mayo.

The shrimp salad was the best thing we ordered. Fresh ingredients, good dressing. But who goes to a plate lunch place for a salad?

Nice little chill spot with probably the best priced food on the island. Finding a breakfast sandwich that big for under ten bucks is unheard of. It came out hot and fresh. I have zero complaints about anything there. Next time I’m on the island I will definitely be bad. Awesome hidden gem. Sadly I forgot to take a picture of my sandwich but believe me, it’s worth it.

Great spot. Food was amazing and so was the prices! I got a cheeseburger and my wife the chicken teriyaki. Both were amazing and only cost $30. Food was fresh, took a little longer than expected but it was a great last meal before we take off. Highly recommended if you are looking for fast dining that isn’t going to break the bank

Obviously a local secret, in the up-country part of Maui. Tucked away in a shopping center you will find friendly service and tasty meals! The portions are large so come with an appetite or take some home. So many options! The Furikake Mochiko chicken is absolutely delicious!

Excellent food! Perfectly cooked chicken teriyaki, Mac salad is on point, and the service was great. My husband got the curry shrimp and was raving about it also! We’ll definitely be back!

Ordered a breakfast croissant for about $7.50. Gave the cashier $10 and told her to keep the change. Then was told they were out of croissants so I said I’d just like my money back. She gave me $7 back. Ma’am, what makes you think it’s appropriate to not give me all my money back? I wasn’t planning on giving yall a $3 tip for no food and bad service. Would have said that but the cashier walked away immediately. Very disappointed, won’t be back.
