Ate from the food truck, was so excited for some Jamaican food but it’s a no for me. No seasoning at all. The rice and peas was the best thing on the plate. The curry chicken was a hard no and the Mac and cheese was a hard pass. Not sure if the sernos were on because the food was not very warm. I will stick to Yaad Vybz Bikkle.

Disclaimer: I put me because we all gonna have a difference of opinion!!! It really wasn’t my cup of tea over all. The food wasn’t hot(spice or temp)to my liking the service was fast however. The skin on the jerk was tough, the meat was flavorful once you pulled the skin off. The mac was dry to me. Now them plantains however was made heavenly, not being hot they still had a crisp and wasn’t soggy. The service was great. He answers all questions and ask do you have questions. Store was clean and the atmosphere of reggae playing in the background perfect!

I was driving by Kalabash Cuisine with my window open when I smelled something banging emanating from that direction. I literally did a u-turn and popped on in. I was there a few minutes before they opened but the smell told me someone was definitely in the kitchen. I knocked on the door . The chef opened the door and was kind enough to accommodate my early intrusion. I asked him to serve me up whatever he was cooking and was graced with the best jerk chicken wings, rice and cabbage I’ve had in years. I had to get some Jamaican soda to wash this down . Compliments to the chef. I’ll definitely be going back here soon

I’m from Queens, NY. Home to many different Caribbean countries, but their take on Jerk Chicken, Rice & Pea, Steamed veg and Plantain was HORRIBLE. Most Caribbean places use long grain rice and pigeon peas but this place didn’t. They used par boiled rice and kidney beans. The rice was very sour which was unpleasant. The jerk chicken” had a very brown thick paste slapped on top and was extremely spicy, sour and bitter. The steamed veg had no flavor at all and the plantains were shriveled up and dried as opposed to plump and juicy. I understand not all countries cook the same. However, I was just so disappointed by the flavor profiles. They didn’t blend well.

First time trying Crucian food and I’m glad I did!
Kalabash primarily serves to-go customers and there are a few spots to sit down and hit. My wife and I dined-in which was a very chill experience. The decor and Reggae music videos playing on the TV give off the island vibes. I got the oxtail which hit the spot! FYI, get there a few hours before they close if you want most seafood items as they could run out. The owner was kind and hospitable. He even broke out his steel drum as an additional treat. Lastly, he hooked us up with a mystery food gift as a show of appreciation. We got the plantain fritters which were ! Will be returning
