Second time coming here in the last couple months and Kakuna Sushi does not disappoint. The service has been quick and reliable, the food was delicious, and the place has always been clean and tidy. I almost never remembered what I order, but I know that it has been delicious every time. I’ll definitely be coming back!

We heard about this place from social media and the sashimi deluxe box looks good with attractive price so decided to come here for a late lunch/ early dinner. When we got there around 3:30 pm, there were only 2 tables before us. Looked like only one server which was a very young guy worked the restaurant by himself. Another server who was a young girl seemed to be on a break as she was there eating and not helping. We ordered two sets of sashimi deluxe box, one salmon avocado role, one potsticker, and one grilled squid. However, only one sashimi deluxe box came with everything else. I tried to catch the server many times but he seemed to avoid eye contact. After an hour I finally had to call him out and asked that the other person on our table did not get her deluxe box which he then said oh you ordered two? At that point we did not want to wait any longer so we asked to get that box to-go. It’s very regrettable that the sashimi deluxe box to-go was equal to a regular sashimi box. A lot of things that were served in the sashimi deluxe box as a dine-in were missing in the to-go box. The fish itself were questionable quality. We know it’s not supreme quality with this price, but it’s not even fresh by a regular sashimi standard. The fatty tuna felt like it was injected with oil and not natural fatty tuna. The potsticker was not even good, couldn’t finish it as the filling seems weird. The shrimp tempura was also disappointing as it was soggy and bland. Maybe we went at a bad timing?

Atmosphere: The place doesn’t seem really decorative and it’s quite small but it doesn’t seem to get too busy. I feel like this place is more for takeouts but you can dine in if you wanted to. They have a good amount of dine in tables so if you wanted to grab food after work or something with no wait then this place is pretty good.
Food: It’s so worth every time I come! They give you the perfect amount of ingredients in your rolls. I feel like they aren’t skimpy with their ingredients and they give you quite a lot compared to other places. The price for these rolls are pretty worth IMO especially when the food is delicious. This is one of those hidden gems place for sushi.
Service: Very friendly and best part is the foods come out pretty quickly. Their takeouts are quite popular since so many people came to pick up their orders.
Tips: No yelp waitlist, first come first serve. They do take takeout orders over phone.

The sushi was good, especially the salmon and hamachi. Toro was alright. Great place for rolls as the ones we got were tasty.
Sushi rolls were priced reasonably as most of the rolls were under $15.
We did takeout and had a good experience.
For those looking for gluten free celiac friendly sushi, this place was careful with their cuts and maki rolls.

Good place to have some good quality sushi! Came on a Friday night and it looked like they were still getting things together in terms of ambiance and just looked like it was still opening.
Seated quickly and order was taken soon after. The sushi was delicious. I wish we had room to try more rolls since they had so many. Pictured are edamame, the kakuna roll, the gaijin roll, the salmon lover sashimi plate, and the orange blossom roll. Can’t wait to come back and try some different rolls.

We have been following Kakuna since it’s original location off Grimmer. We were so excited that they landed in Milpitas we ordered from them almost weekly. Now that they’re right around the corner from us, I hope they’re ready for us to visit all the time. Their quality of food has been top notch at all 3 locations and incredibly consistent! So happy to have them close to home.

36. Because there is a large party of 10, all the other tables got delayed to basically wait until the 10 got their full menu served. The bill was served instantly after we finished the last bite in the dish, while it took us 30 more minutes to wait until the dishes were ready.
Plus the restroom kept smelling strongly weird with an artificial odor all over the dining area.
The signal within the restaurant was constantly bad that my phone couldn’t load anything so we just waited boringly.
Top de- recommend dish in the below pic “Ragin Cajun”, smells like dead fish (been dead for days) soaked in water mixed with cheese and mayonnaise.
