We started the evening with Gyoza and Takoyaki, and they were the perfect way to begin the meal. The gyoza were nicely crisped on the outside with juicy, flavorful filling, while the takoyaki were warm, soft, and savory — a classic street-food favorite done right.
For my main dish, I ordered the Teriyaki Tori, and it truly stood out. The chicken had a wonderful aroma and a beautifully grilled texture with a slightly crispy bite on the outside while remaining juicy inside. You can really tell it was grilled with care and precision. The flavor was incredibly satisfying and unique — honestly, I’ve had chicken dishes in many places, but it’s hard to find one quite like this. Paired with the noodles, the combination was rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced.(And if you’re not a noodles fan, you can easily ask to swap the noodles for rice.)
My husband ordered the Sukiyaki, which was warm, savory, and deeply comforting — the kind of dish that makes a dinner feel complete.
To end the evening, we treated ourselves to dessert: Matcha Crepe Cake with Matcha Ice Cream, and Taiyaki with Vanilla Ice Cream. As someone who truly loves matcha, I have to say the matcha flavor here is the real deal — smooth, fragrant, and beautifully balanced without being overly sweet. The crepe cake layers were delicate and light, and paired with the matcha ice cream it was absolutely delightful. The taiyaki with vanilla ice cream was also a perfect sweet finish.
From the appetizers to dessert, everything felt thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. A wonderful dining experience overall — we’ll definitely be coming back again.

We started with two appetizers. Karaage and Takoyaki. Karaage was definitely one of the top level in NoVA. It was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Takoyaki was ok but I wouldn’t consider it as top-notch.
It was my first time visiting the restaurant so I tried the menu that has the signature symbol on it. Niku Miso was a dry noodle with pork on oily/miso based sauce. It was a unique taste that I’ve never experienced before but very much enjoyable. It tastes similar to Chinese dan dan noodle but less oily and greasy. I loved it.
I would try this place again with my family and love to see if my young kids would love it. Glad to find another good restaurant in the area.
Certainly worth a try if you are into it. Lots of pretty artwork around the restaurant.
TL/DR: Kajiken is a true jewel serving amazing fried appetizers and perfectly executed abura soba (brothless oil ramen) with plentiful fresh ingredients in a welcoming, clean setting served by attentive and polite waitstaff. * Highly Recommended *
Having enjoyed abura soba in Tokyo, we’d been looking for this uncommon cousin to ramen here in the Mid-Atlantic US. When we found Kajiken, we realized that our cravings could be well satisfied.
In a nutshell, Abura Ramen is (thick) kinky ramen noodles with seasoned oil and proteins at the bottom of the bowl, noodles in the middle, and typical garnishes on top. You mix up the bowl like Korean bibimbap before eating. We like it because it’s pure, concentrated noodle goodness without the occasional soup bloat and extra sodium. It’s a great variation for noodle lovers like us.
The Abura Soba:
We ordered the Original, Niku Miso, and Teriyaki Tori. Each bowl was completely satisfying. Noodles perfectly firm, toppings fresh and plentiful, and oils and protein seasonings rich and savory. Absolutely wonderful!
Sukikayi Don:
This rice bowl was topped with gobs of thinly-sliced good quality beef and well-done rice. Basic, tasty, and exactly what it needed to be.
Fried Appetizers:
An absolute high point of their menu. Takoyaki (so much octopus), karaage, kaki fry (oysters), and Gesokara (squid tentacles) were perfect. Meats were fresh and succulent, with perfect coatings, and fried in light, new oil. No other ramen shop or izakaya we’ve been to in Virginia has gotten this so perfectly right. Must eat!
Bottom line: Located in an unassuming strip mall, Kajiken Falls Church delivers Tokyo-quality noodles and fried appetizers that are sure to satisfy anyone’s cravings and high expectations. Recommended without reservation!
I also noticed how differently other customers were treated. White and Asian customers were greeted warmly and told goodbye when they left, but we didn’t even receive a simple “hello” or “goodbye.”
To make matters worse, I ordered plain noodles with garlic sauce for my son. The sauce never came, yet I was still charged $15 for the noodles alone. Despite this, I left a 40% tip—not for the service, but as a final gesture since I won’t be returning.
For a brand-new restaurant, this behavior is unacceptable. Unless they make serious changes, I don’t see this place staying open for long.
