A fairly average sushi experience. We ordered the sashimi set, which was decent but unremarkable – the fish selection felt limited, with the salmon belly being the most memorable bite thanks to its fatty texture and slight smokiness. The sushi rice was notably bland and missing the brightness of rice vinegar. A serviceable option if you’re nearby, but not a spot that leaves much of an impression.

This is definitely a good place for a casual sushi night. Prices are very good for the quality of what you get. It’s BYOB, so your overall check is not bad at all. My favorite sushi was the Dynamite roll. If you like scallops and sushi, this is the perfect combination. I would also recommend the Ocean roll. They are very tasty and definitely worthy for the price.

I think they must prioritize take out. We were only diners inside on a Tuesday early evening and had to ask a sushi chef to get us the server (who was back in the kitchen preparing take out orders) to come take our order. We got two “specialty rolls,” an order of miso soup, edamame, and seaweed salad. The rolls were fine, not great 6/10. Good portion size on both the edamame and seaweed salad. Didn’t really see our server again until we waved her down for the check. If I were to offer any suggestions it would be: don’t wait so long to take order, offer hot tea or otherwise beverage, and after food arrives , check in with diner.

We could have walked a few blocks further to another sushi place that I think is better, for what we get.

Also, I wish you could rank 3.5 because that is my rank, across the board.

I was very pleased with my first visit go Kai! The lunch special is an absolute bargain, and I was very pleased with my spicy tuna and spicy crab rolls. Very reasonable prices for sushi. Note: They put a lot of salt on the edamame which I enjoyed, but something to aware of.

Amazing value for the quality. Such warm, friendly service. We eat a lot of sushi and this was our favorite in recent memory. Would highly recommend.

Unreal sushi! Our new go-to spot. Beautiful ambiance and beautifully plated sushi. We got the TUNA TATAKI appetizer and the CHICAGO CUBS and the OCEAN Speciality Roles. The waitress brought out an orange treat for dessert too. 1000/10! Cannot wait to come back. Telling all my friends!

Takeout review
Overall: Great opportunity for those who live by Southport, which is seemingly sparse when it comes to any sushi options.

The good: Great tasting sushi, each roll had it’s own unique flavor and presentation. The citrus salmon, green turtle, and special spicy tuna were all great in their own way, and the presentation (even for takeout) was impressive. The fish is fresh and flavorful and the “portion” sizes of the rolls were perfect.

The not-so-good: A little too expensive. Also a tad slow, we walked in and ordered and it took probably 15 minutes to make 3 rolls, even though there was only one other two-top there.

Atmosphere: 8/10
Service: 7.5/10
Food: 8/10
