We were out trying local beers last night and decided to stop here for some hard Kombucha. I’m not a Kombucha drinker but my partners is. We were greeted by Sunshine who was so sweet. She guided us on kombucha flavors and sold us on a flight of 4 drinks. We got the Island vibes, pineapple Yerba hard tea, poggy style, and limoncello. DELICIOUS! The limoncello and poggy style were my favorite and did not taste like kombucha. We also had a CA hand roll and it was really good. Light and fresh tasting. We will come back.

This place is awesome! It’s at a great location in Solana Beach on Cedros. I’m loving the R&D menu and just had the Agave Rita, delicious! Great place to come in the afternoon or on weekends to have some hard komboocha and chill.

I had high hopes. I was very disappointed. They kept the door open and it was freezing inside. The waitress tried to close it since we the first table by the door but she said management told her to keep it open. It was 50 degrees and felt colder with the air gushing in. Needless to say, we hurried up and left.

A different waiter gave me the “total” when I asked for the check . I saw no bill and no itemized check . He just said my total verbally and asked me to tap my card. I am not sure if I liked that.
Will not be coming back

Last night I chose Sushi and Tap over many great options thinking it would be fun: instead I had a waitress with short, black hair who was unsmiling the whole time, never went further beyond her job and made me feel unwelcome – even electing a little cheer to her BOH team when I got out of my chair so she could leave. It was the rudest customer service experience I’ve ever had. It made everything feel overpriced considering the service was disturbing and even felt slightly racist. I will never be back.

We loved our first visit to Kai Ola on Cedros so much that I posted about it on Facebook along with photos. The Hawaiian special had been beautifully plated with orchids and sauces that were swirled into a beautiful design, and the flavors were amazing. The second visit, unfortunately, was disappointing. The fish was grossly chewy and the rice wasn’t sticky and fell apart, so the rice from my tuna maguro ended up in the soy sauce bowl and the tuna got soaked so was overly salty. My friend’s tuna roll wasn’t impressive either and fell apart when we tried to share it. Worse, the service was horrendous. We tried to flag down our waitress many times and in most cases gave up and just asked our sushi chef to relay a message for us. We had asked her in the beginning for separate checks, and of course we’e presented with one in the end.

I’d give it another chance, but was sorely disappointed. I know it’s not up to the quality of our past visits to their sister restaurant in Leucadia. Only posting because I think the owner should be aware of it since he wasn’t around.

This new establishment is awesome! Local Roots is some of the best kombucha I’ve ever had. They have a great variety of flavors, some that are consistent and others that are rotating. The staff is really nice and the location is very comfortable, modern, and cute.

I don’t drink alcohol and the first few times I went to Local Roots, there were several rotating NA options on tap. More recently, they have limited it to 1, but were also offering can pours so there were still multiple flavors to chose from. When I went back with my partner this weekend, however, the bartender told me that the cans are only available for purchase in 4- or 6-packs so I didn’t order anything. I’m disappointed because it was my favorite place to take friends and visitors for drinks, but without the NA options it’s much less appealing. They have the cans refrigerated next to the bar, I hope they make these available to enjoy onsite again in the future.

So I got a gift card for Christmas to local roots, excited and went last night for dinner to try it out……. and this is why I don’t go out much to establishments, service sucked, 45 minutes to order a stinking sushi roll!!! And loud in there, they were doing trivia. Ughhhh….had 1 kambucha…God I left hungry didn’t even eat sushi….young man named omar was trying to be nice about my experience, thanks for trying. But overall a horrible experience at local roots, sorry guys, I expect excellent customer service when I do out spending good money. Merry whatever.

Move aside Juneshine, Local Roots is delicious and here to stay. Popped into here after Culture Brewing was closed an hour earlier then the advertised time. Pleasantly surprised. Lots of tasty flavors and Rachael was an amazing boochtender. Try the Tropical Habanero if you like a spicy kick or the Bluebird Daze for something a lil unique.
