I’m a novice at Korean cuisine and a vegetarian. So it was a delight to find a restaurant where the staff could actually identify dishes that were vegetarian and even vegan. I had Jajangmyeon with a rolled omelette as a side and tteokbokki. All were superb. Better than anything I ate at Korean restaurants in the DC area. Thank you for bringing another superb international experience to Evansville!

Solid traditional Korean food, large menu and well made. Korean fried chicken was very tumeric forward but the batter was crispy and delicious and with the sauce it was great. Kimbap with the bulgogi was some of the best we’ve had, and the Korean Hot Dog (corn dog) was a neat treat we’ve been looking to try.
Portions were big and reasonably priced for the size.

Ok this was my first time here and I will most definitely return. The food here is just delicious. The folks working in here which I assume are owners were awesome with their customer service. She made great menu recommendations that were spot on. This place is easy to find using Google Maps. There is plenty of free parking.

I’ve been three more times. Once, the waiter was rude and had he been the one I saw first m, I wouldn’t be back. Then I went again and it was fine. Not super friendly but who cares. Food was delicious. I really enjoy the fried cheese logs.

We have been to jumak several times. Most of the time we dine in. Today was different as we ordered carryout. We ordered Korean BBQ fried chicken with 1 side. We didn’t receive the side nor sauce on the chicken. We were told there was a 30 minute wait but waited over an hour. They weren’t busy at the time. There were 4 people eating in the restaurant. I’m not sure if we will be back at this point. A 25 minute drive home does not end well when discovering half your order is incorrect and missing. I do take partial responsibility for not pulling everything out of the bag and thoroughly checking it. Technically I shouldn’t have to. Especially after spending $40 for 2 items.

My girlfriend and I were very excited to eat here as we had heard a lot about it and read a lot of reviews, so we drove 45 minutes from Owensboro, KY to check it out.
The restaurant is very clean. There isn’t music but they did have what looked to be a Korean soap opera on the tv.
If aren’t familiar with Korean food like we weren’t, well, good luck. The virtual menu on the back wall has pictures, but there aren’t any paper menus to describe what it actually is that you’re ordering nor does the guy at the counter really help, so we just picked stuff and hoped for the best. The prices seem reasonable.
I will say the food was hot, fresh, and appeared very authentic. The flavors are similar but different in comparison to Chinese and Japanese food; I honestly don’t know how to explain it exactly. The Korean corn dog has sugar on it; I dno. The spicy cucumbers were neat.
Apart from that, the gentleman started putting the chairs up and turned off the open sign 49 minutes before they were supposed to close…while we were still eating (only ones there), so that was off-putting. Also, I guess it’s just a lady and her husband that work there; she makes the food and he runs the register. The guy is not nice or friendly at all and even after we told him it was our first time he didn’t really help us with ordering; the whole atmosphere and vibe was extremely off-putting.
If you like Korean food and want to order it to-go, this is probably a good spot; just make sure to bring cash and don’t stay too long.

My wife and I were in here for lunch about a week ago. I was hoping to get some good, authentic Korean food as I haven’t had any since leaving Korea back in the 90s after being stationed in the military there for just over a year. When my wife told me about this place she’d found I was hopeful, especially when I heard it was being ran by an ex-military member who had married a Korean. I was hoping to get some of the same kinds of food I had enjoyed 30yrs ago in places like Seoul, Uijeongbu and Dongducheon where I’d spent most of my time there and introduce my wife to actual Korean cuisine. Unfortunately, I have mixed feelings about our experience.
Given the timing of our trip to Evansville, we got there a little bit before opening and we were the first customers in the door. There were a few others who arrived shortly after, however, but they were all even older (70ish) than we are (50ish). The younger guy who worked the counter was polite and helpful. He took our order, gave us our drinks and we found a place to sit as we had our choosing. Others arrived and orders were taken just as ours was but by an older gentleman whom I’m assuming was the ex-military owner. His demeanor towards customers was much more unwelcome, cold and not so friendly it seemed. So in other reviewed comments for this restaurant, I’m guessing this is likely whom it was they refer to here.
I ordered the osam bulgogi and my wife had the bibimbap rice bowl. I didn’t try any of her dish, but she said it was good and very filling. My osam bulgogi tasted good and I ate the whole plate as well, but unfortunately my stomach soon regretted that. About 30min after leaving the restaurant and getting on the road to return home, I started feeling ill and we had to make several stops along the way to go to the bathroom. My wife didn’t have any issues with her food, but I suffered gastrointestinal issues for a couple days afterwards. I obviously can’t say this was a direct cause, but it seems odd given the timing.
I really, really want to enjoy this place and I’m willing to return to try it again. I hope that others have a better experience than I personally did though. That being said, more focus on the customer experience FOH by certain staff/owners should be addressed and perhaps better decor that makes the restaurant look more like a traditional Korea “jumak” establishment instead of a basic Asian restaurant would go a long way. If there are BOH issues that need to be addressed that bring cause and concern to food quality, health and safety, I hope they are taken care of also and my reaction to my meal was due to other reasons.
Otherwise, I hope that others try this restaurant and try some authentic Korean food as well. Those of us who have spent time in Korea for whatever reason I hope can have an opportunity here to remember and experience again the food we enjoyed while there through this restaurant. Getting authentic Asian food that hasn’t been “Americanized” is a rare thing, especially in this area.

The restaurant was clean, had plenty of room for seating and parking. The food was excellent!! The tteokbokki was very nice, get the spicy or rose, the rice cakes were so soft inside. I got the spicy pork and squid stir fry, it wasn’t very spicy but it was very tasty and i ate every bite. My wife got the dolsot bibimbap, the veggies tasted fresh and the rice was cooked great. Portions are generous and cost if reasonable. I also recommended the pickled radish or fish cake as a side. We will definitely be back next time in town!!
