Staff is friendly, and greet customers when they enter the restaurant. We have bought tamales ‘to go’ from Juani’s in the past, and they have both red chile pork and chicken green chile stocked all year.. This is a big deal, as it can be hard to find tamales except at Christmas time at other restaurants. The tamales are very tasty, meaty, large, and excellent to keep on hand at home. Call ahead to have them ready and verify their stock, as they are very popular, and may have to thaw some out for you!
Their salsa and chips are unique with a green salsa and the chips are made by hand!
The plates are reasonably priced and good size portions, with refried beans, rice, lettuce, and tomatos.
Dont miss out on their Aguas Frescas, which are fresh fruit drinks and made on site as well.
All recipes are Juani’s original recipes and they use quality products, beef brisket for the shredded beef and only chicken breast for their shredded chicken. Dine in or carry out for a wonderfully tasty experience.
Pictures show enchilada plate with shredded beef, creamy green chicken, and ground beef enchiladas, and a tamale plate with red chile pork and green chile chicken tamales. Also pictured is watermelon and cucumber lemonade agua frescas. Juani is also pictured below the menu…
First off: PLEASE MAKE SURE THE LADIES UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WANT YOUR ORDER AS YOU MENTIONED IT and NOT AS WHAT THEY WILL PREFER TO SUBSTITUTE YOU WITH (without telling you about the changes that are being made to your order in the back).
We came here for the first time–being out-of-state and wanting to try a spot that may have been more authentic than a franchise eatery.
The handmade salsa was a bit odd, too. There was a lot of salt and black pepper that overwhelmed it.
Our order was messed up, and the excuse of them being busy making tamales all day long was the reason why a customer should be okay with receiving an order they did not ask for.
The lady of the establishment seemed very nice and eager to take our order, so we were excited to enjoy a repast at the spot; however, this is what happened:
My boyfriend only wanted water for his beverage. The waitress brought out tea and basically told him that was what he was going to have to deal with since they had no water; she wasn’t going to charge for it. (He doesn’t drink tea.)
Next, I order ground beef with my combo plate…and my boyfriend ordered his with chicken. Well, we both received brisket instead.
The lady tried to rectify the situation for me by preparing me a ground beef taco…which I asked for them to PLEASE NOT DO. When folks are overworked and allegedly have to open a pack of ground meat and cook some for a customer who they swore up-and-down asked for brisket…did not seem at the time to be something “safe” for me to eat as the patron. The effort was appreciated, but I asked the person not to. Besides, the order had to be a ground meat taco AND ground meat enchilada. The order was still not completed correctly.
I wish these ladies would have told us that they did not have the ingredients readily available to serve us what we ordered…INSTEAD OF BRINGING US WHAT THEY HAD LEFT AS A SUBSTITUTE.
They did not do right by their customers. $16.00 is too much to pay for a meal that you did not prefer/ordered.
They refused to take my meal off of the ticket …even though I was NOT going to eat it.
No love lost. I just wanted to share my experience to help some innocent patron to avoid this place or at least make it known that you don’t want any substitutes at all; no deviations from your order without your approval of the meal modification.
When I got there the place was Rockin & Rollin to say the least.
A lot of to-go customers waiting and all the tables taken and the line was out the door.
I should have left and came back at a later time, but my bad, I didn’t do that.
When I got to the counter to place my order, the owner/daughter left out the front door and a lady who didn’t speak English and it was her first day on the job attempted to take my order…
UNSUCCESSFULLY!
The owner chose to go outside at that moment to do an interview for someone news source and the mom/owner was furious about that!
To make a long story short, I spent $33 on two orders and both were wrong.
They should have been better prepared!!
The pozole comes with a toasted and split torta bun, lime, cilantro and onion, pepper flakes and oregano. The red hell broth isn’t as fiery as it looks though it does have a bite.
During my visit the owners son Joshua was filling in as server and he was great adding to the family run feel of the restaurant.
They offer homemade chips and salsa while you wait for your food. The chips alone were fantastic. Good amount of salt and flavor. Found myself not really needing the salsa all that much because the chips were done just right.
Their fresca’s are VERY good. (Pina being my favorite, cucumber at a close second) I ordered the Carne Asada street taco’s plate.
You get 4 loaded street tacos, plus rice, beans and cheese for about 15$, and it’s more than enough food for the price.
Good food, good prices, and even better staff.
Very welcoming and pleasant to talk to.
If you’re tired of other places not having that “welcome home” interaction and taste to their food, then I recommend giving this place a shot.
The staff really do a good job at making you feel welcome and considering the lack of warmth that a lot of other places seem to be having issues with nowadays, for me that’s a huge plus.
Give this place a shot. It’s affordable the owner really enjoys cooking so that’s always nice!
This is my favorite New Mexican restaurant in the city (the combination plate is my go-to specifically) and if my review happens to reach your eyes, I hope you’ll give it a try.
