We stopped at J’s last month to try a restaurant that we hadn’t been to before & we loved everything we ordered. While you might think it’s fast-food due to ordering at a walk-up counter on the first floor, it takes just as long as a sit-down restaurant for your meal to arrive – and with good reason. Each plate was as beautiful as it was tasty.
I ordered the Cuban sandwich and it had all the flavor I was looking for. The potato salad I ordered had more flavor than I was expecting (a good thing) and we enjoyed some bottled beverages as well.
There was enough to take home with us & we enjoyed sitting in the most comfortable cushioned chairs I sat in at a restaurant while we waited for food to arrive. I’d recommend going and trying out a dish or two. We’ll be back.

This restaurant is beautifully decorated with lots of artwork and plants. The service was friendly and quick. The menu consisted of sandwiches, rice bowls and a few salads. I got the Veggie Guisado (chickpea stew) with added avocado. It was hearty and filling, but a bit too heavy as it was mostly rice, chickpeas, and potatoes. The rice was also a little too salty and tasted fairly simple, like something I could make at home. I was hoping for more flavour in the bowl. I kind of regret not getting a sandwich instead.

I was so excited to see a Puerto Rican restaurant, as I am very familiar with Latin-Carribean food from living in Miami for four years. However, their pernil sandwich was not up to par with what a pork sandwich should be. There was barely any meat in the sandwich. Many spots of my sandwich were just bread, sauce, and arugula. This does not reflect how pork sandwiches should be or what Latin culture is around food. Latin people are very generous and provide good portions for the price. With the pernil sandwich being $19.50, to have barely any meat in the sandwich is unacceptable. Additionally, the tostones are completely wrong. They are not the right color nor the right texture. Their saving grace is the empanadas. Both the chicken and the beef are really good.

Absolutely fantastic experience here. Great drinks, nice people, and nothing we ate was less than amazing. Highly recommend trying the beef and cheese empanadas! Also the carne bowl with the gandules (ps the mi madre hot sauce on the table is to die for, I bought myself a bottle)

Delicious Puerto Rican food, large menu selection, lunch specials, cuban sandwiches, everything you could want. Adds flavor to Bellingham that is rare. Very good addition to Fairhaven and I hope you check it out. Asked about veggie dish selection, they have a a lot to choose from.

Great food and service!! I had a Cuban sandwich and it was delicious. The service was fast and very friendly too! I ended up going back the next day with a friend who showed me some great items to mix on the menu. They had a great drink selection too. I ate my food so fast that I forgot to take a pic! This will surely be where I go when I am back in the area again.

Has a tasty lunch here, split empanadas and the pollo guisado with the bf and it was plenty. Between chicken and beef we preferred the beef empanada. The chicken was wonderful, the rice a tad salty but still good to eat. The tostones and cassava fries are perfect. A solid place that we’ll likely repeat! Gluten free options but unsure if it’s safe for celiac.

I have delivered from this place a few times and I’ve gotten the chance to sit and observe, rare in this busy life! . Staff is absolutely amazingly friendly. It gives off the Friends vibe almost! A place to come, sit, talk with friends while enjoying authentic food. They welcome you as customers but you leave a friend. I will definitely be back to taste the amazing smelling food. Best wishes

This is the best place for Puerto Rican food in Washington. The “arroz con gandules” made me emotional because it reminded me of the one my grandma used to make. If you want to eat good, flavorful food, visit this restaurant.

Being a Puerto Rican, I had to indulge myself here for my 72nd birthday. The food was excellent, the service equal to the food and very friendly besides. I ordered mofongo and a cocktail, plus extras. The family at a nearby table was enjoying themselves, and there was a party in the upstairs portion. I recommend J’s Kitchen to everyone.
