This used to be my go-to lunch spot. Unfortunately after a few ownership changes, I feel like the meals I get here for the price just are not that good. I ordered the karaage bento, and while the fried chicken was good, the amount of rice (a thin layer half the box) and chicken was not great. In addition the potato salad used to be creamy and delicious but this was just bland and tasteless. Overall I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here anymore.

The seared salmon inari is seriously the best I’ve ever had! So flavorful and perfectly seared. The chirashi is super fresh and delicious too. Everything tastes really high quality!

Fast, can get the food ready in no time, which is perfect for folks who don’t have time to wait in line for lunch like myself. Bento has various side dishes which is nice. Portion is quite generous but tastes just okay.

I am still trying out all of the restaurants around my job and this place caught my eye. I love the small kitchen aesthetic, it reminds me of living in Asia. I ordered a nigiri roll and beef teriyaki. The roll was fine but the beef was a bit dry and not my favorite meal. I would revisit and try something else but it was just ok.

Excellent little family-run lunch spot near enough to ferry terminal to grab a quick, fresh bite before your boat. Is this place the finest bento/teriyaki Seattle has to offer? Likely not. But that’s not its purpose as far as I can reckon. Its purpose is to provide the busy downtown public and visitors with an efficient, authentic, affordable, and tasty meal. And they do. Over and over again, I would guess.
Order the teriyaki or katsu bento box, wait a minute or two in their honest, unadorned space, watch a few K-pop videos with the owner’s polite little kid, and hit the road.
Prices seemed exactly right to me. We had a sizeable (and mobile) lunch for two for 30 bucks. They threw in two complementary miso soups–a promotion they are running for the rest of “this winter.”

the lady at the front was so incredibly rude for no reason. we had a reservation but still had to wait 20 mins while she just chatted w her coworkers. if u hate your job just quit lol. don’t waste your time or money here guys plenty of better spots nearby

I tried the teriyaki chicken and beef teriyaki combo, and honestly, it was disappointing. The chicken was dry and had an awful, almost burnt taste that the overly sweet sauce couldn’t cover up. The beef wasn’t much better it was tough and chewy, with very little flavor. Neither tasted fresh, and the textures were off. For what they charge, I expected a lot better. The portions were small, especially considering the price, and it didn’t feel like good value at all. I left still hungry and wishing I’d gone somewhere else. Overall, it’s overpriced for what you get and just plain bad.
If you want Seattle style teriyaki avoid this place its awful. it’s the last time I go here.

joybento is a small kitchen serving sushi, teriyaki and poke. It’s located inside of a parking garage right off the street between 2nd and 3rd. It’s got no seating inside so it’s only to go. They make everything right as you order and have 3-5 people working in the tiny kitchen to get food to you fast. Their menu has a decent amount of items on it, and although it’s slightly on the higher side in price, the portion sizes are good and taste is phenomenal. Their Inari is pretty plump and flavorful, bento boxes are heavy, gyoza is a mix of soft and crunchy, and their rolls are fresh. Their service is great too, very friendly and super quick. Definitely a top lunch spot if you’re in the downtown area, but get there before it gets packed around noon!

Joybento is a charming little corner spot in Seattle, but unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations. I ordered the spicy teriyaki chicken—looked great, but the chicken was overcooked and dry, almost like chewing on hard carbon. The sauce was just okay, nothing special.
Love the concept, but execution matters, and this one missed the mark. Wouldn’t recommend.
