Love this place. One of the best mexican food places in town. They have beer as well as a large assortment of mexican sodas and drinks but no liquor. Still 5 star food and great service!
Update 9/15/25
The place was spotless as I sat down and ordered some nachos… a deviation from the past 3 years of ordering the asada burrito. When they came out in 5m they looked fantastico and tasted even better!

This food is ADDICTING. Best Mexican food in town 100%. Quality food (authentic), and fair servings for price! We were recommended this place by friends. Imported sodas! Family friendly environment. It’s definitely a hole in the wall. You just walk in, order at the front and pay when you leave. The woman helping us was nice and friendly with advice for what to eat since it was our first time there. Being a new resident of Tahlequah, this place definitely puts a smile on my face and even reminds me of home. ❤️

What a nice sunny warm winter day to take a spin to Tahlequah. Add fantastic authentic traditional food from Jose’s Mexican Restaurant and it doesn’t get much better.

Jose’s is located on the east side of the S. Muskogee Ave. on Monroe. The restaurants had been in business for quite a few years. The locals know where it is. Google search pays off for those of us that don’t.

Jose’s menu is small, with all the right stuff. Tacos, Gorditas, Sopes, Burritos, Enchiladas, Tortas and a good selection of meats. All that you need and nothing that you don’t for authentic Mexican food. Three sopes for me and my wife got the enchilada plate. We ordered barbacoa for both meals. I added a small queso, salsa and chips. They cost extra. They are worth it. The sopes were excellent, very filling. Two would have been enough. The red sauce on my wife’s enchiladas was the real deal traditional red chili sauce. The barbacoa was well seasoned, tender chunks of beef. Salsa wise, the mild was fair, the picante had bite and flavor, the queso excellent and the green was world class delicious. The green salsa was served warm and it was wonderful!
Excellent authentic food, served fresh, good service, order at the counter. A clean restaurant with a big dining area.

Jose’s has some of the best of what I call traditional authentic style Mexican food, that we have had in Oklahoma.

If you are looking for other Mexican restaurants in the area, check out my reviews in my collection “Jalapeno Highway” by Spike S. on Yelp. I’ve probably been there.

New to OK and heard these were the best tacos… After trying 5 or 6 “Mexican” spots near and far, this hands down was the best I’ve had in OK thus far. I have a feeling it’s going to be hard to find another place better. The meat was flavorful, tortillas were soft yet little crispy. The salsa is delicious. But the meat tenderness was what really sold it for me and I tried three different types of meats.

You should update the time you close online and on your door. It says you close @8 but I walked in 7:10 and stood at the counter for a good minute while two worker lady’s just talked. I didn’t know y’all were closed till a nice lady from the back told me. It’s fine if y’all were closed since it’s just tacos but the lady’s who just watched me stand there were unprofessional. I get it you hate your job but at least have the common courtesy to tell me you’re closed.

I wanted to share that I still reminisce over the gorditas there. Nothing is better than 3-4 of your gorditas after a long day on the river. We talk about them still to this day and its been years.

Authentic everything! Hands down im the top 3 tacos I have had in my life. All meat choices have great flavor, and are tinder and juicy. You walk in and place your order at the counter by the kitchen. The smell is immediately evident and it smells wonderful! They have fountain drinks, plastic bottle drinks and glass bottle drinks. If you order queso, salsa or guac be aware it comes with one serving of chips. Bottomless chips and salsa are not complementary. The building is small but the prices are reasonable and the food is great!
