We’re a little bit classy, and a little bit trashy. We’re Josephine’s Gulf Coast Tradition. We serve what we know, are proud to be a steward of Gulf Coast resources, locally source ingredients and share the history behind them. We honor traditions of generations past while creating new traditions for future generations. We represent the cultures of the gulf states and support the industries that helped mold them. We love telling stories of the people we learned from, the people we source from, and the people who inspire us. We strive to be a place where time slows, a place where people gather, and a place to celebrate traditions – old and new. Shuck it – LET’S PARTY

Stopped by on our way home from IAH looking for some Louisiana style food. Success!
The recipes actually are slightly Mississippi influenced, but in Houston it is surprisingly difficult to find seafood which is actually seasoned New Orleans style. Josephine’s does a great job.
It was a little early this season for crawfish, so the shells were a bit soft and they tended a little small, and not quite as heavily seasoned as I prefer, but the market price was in line with the area and the flavor was good. They seem to combine the boil and steam methods, which is how I prepare crawfish as well, so you can ask them to add more of the seasoning if you want to. I found the flavor built over time, so I didn’t modify.
Most critically, you can get a real po-boy sandwich here. Yes! Leidenheimer bread, THE ONLY LEGITIMATE (remaining in commercial production) PO-BOY BREAD is used for their shrimp po-boy. My boys would only give me a corner of a crust, so it’s possible that I need to be a nicer mom, but it melts on the mouth. For this alone, we would be returning, but happily every item we tried (fresh oysters, hush puppies, the French fries and the above) was very good to excellent.
Hope you enjoy it as much.
The appetizers were a highlight, particularly the jalapeño hush puppies, which were crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced in terms of spice. And the homemade biscuits? Absolutely divine – flaky, buttery, served with a flavorful jam.
As for the entrees, I opted for the seafood boil, which was pretty tasty. The seasoning was light, with just the right amount of kick, although I felt the mushrooms could have benefited from a bit more grilling time.
My friend, on the other hand, raved about the BBQ blue crabs, which were a resounding 10 out of 10.
One thing that impressed me was the restaurant’s approach to reservations – unlike many other spots in the area, they didn’t require a credit card to hold our spot, which was a refreshing change of pace.
Overall, I’d highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious, satisfying meal in a welcoming atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back and try more of their offerings!”
We started with the roasted oysters, which were very good and perfectly shucked. I ordered the muffuletta sandwich and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. Overall, the food and drink prices are reasonable for the quality.
Parking is limited to garage and paid street parking. Last but not least, we received phenomenal service from our server, Greg. He was very attentive and extremely knowledgeable about both the food and drink menu from beginning to end.
I do want to note that the fish collars had quite a few bones, so if that’s not your thing, you may want to skip that dish. The Brussels sprouts were packed with flavor and very well seasoned.
Parking is limited, so plan on street parking or taking an Uber. I’d also recommend making a reservation, as the space is small and fills up quickly.
Fried rice: 8/10 – little too buttery but very good and original
Gumbo: 10/10 – one of the best gumbo Ive had before. Was phenomenal
Half chicken: 5/10 the chicken was dry and the sauce was too much mayo . For the price and the dry chicken, I would’ve not gotten this again. Nicely seasoned .
Italian Sandwich: 8/10 bread was very light and crispy. I don’t usually like Italian sandwiches but this one was pretty good. Had a little too much meat.
Biscuit: 7/10- a little dry but the butter and jam was excellent
