Josephine Bouchon review: the French menu that tastes even better …
Reviews
For the main, the Fillet was excellent, and the steamed potatoes (pomme vapeur) were the perfect side. For dessert, we had the Mousse au Chocolat, and I suggested to my partner that we top it with some fleur de sel—it was a great addition! That little hit of salt really brought out the richness of the chocolate.
Superb service and a wonderful atmosphere. Definitely a 10/10.
It took nearly 20 minutes for a waiter to take our dessert order. When they finally did, they came back to tell us the dessert we wanted wasn’t available that day, so we ended up waiting for nothing.
The house wine system also seemed unnecessarily complicated and caused additional delays. We deliberately didn’t drink much wine at lunch and had probably less than one-third of the bottle. When we asked for the bill, the waiter had to wait for the sommelier to measure the remaining wine. We were told we had consumed the equivalent of two glasses, and the bottle was taken away.
Then there was more confusion. The waiter returned about 10 minutes later without knowing whether the wine had been measured or what amount should be charged. After checking again, we were eventually charged for three glasses instead of two. (£7/glass, £28/bottle)
By that point, we just wanted to leave.
It’s dog friendly, which we appreciated, but unfortunately we won’t be returning.
I especially loved the combination of classic French comfort dishes with a modern twist. The service was prompt without ever feeling rushed, and the overall vibe is relaxed yet elegant.
There are some food items, like the rabbit that is in limited supply, so make sure you get your requests in with your bookings.
It’s the perfect spot for a date night, weekend brunch, or a catch-up with friends.
Beautifully decorated and as a Parisian I really felt at ‘home’.
Before coming I was a little worried this might be an ‘influencer’ spot aka aesthetically nice but mediocre food however my friends and I loved our meal – delicious.
