Jo’s is a modern American diner created to complement the Mission Hills community. We are a casual neighborhood restaurant serving diner-inspired meals. From Fresh Albacore Tuna Melts and Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf to Grass-Fed Burgers & Chocolate Ganache Milk Shakes, Jo’s offers a subtle modern touch to all the familiar diner classics. 4.5 stars — they serve breakfast all day. Kim our waitress was awesome. Cinnamon pancakes are great! Omelettes are perfect egg consistency (visually appealing and tasty). Only critiques are with the polenta and short ribs Benedict– the hollandaise looked curdled, probably because we ordered breakfast at 2pm… The polenta wasn’t creamy, it was rigid and unappetizing in appearance and texture. Still…everything tasted good and that is what matters!

Such a good brunch! I got the veggie omelette and a side of sausage. The omelette was loaded with veggies and cheese, and the sausage was SO good. Love that they offer a variety of sides to choose from. Super quick service as well. Highly recommend!

I had the classic eggs Benedict with breakfast potatoes and a side of French toast with sliced strawberries and powdered sugar. Everything was delicious! The staff is friendly and my server Kim was great! There is a small parking lot behind the diner or you can find local on-street parking close by. Would love to go again to try all the recommendations Kim made to me!
Edited to add: Went back the next day for dinner. I had the Lumpia, French Onion Soup and the Bacon-wrapped Meatloaf. They were all outstanding! My server, Amy, was very friendly and we had a great chat about my visit to San Diego.

This was a quaint diner. The food was delicious and of good quality. I got French toast and eggs. My husband got a burger with tater tots. We both also got a dinner to go. The mashed potatoes were the best I have ever had. The staff were attentive and not pushy.

This so called Diner is AWFUL. We tried short rib and was TERRIBLE (dry,untender) and breakfast was HORRID and their so called homemade lumpia were Greasy with very little meat and vegetables. Service was MISERABLE and bathroom FILTHY.
but directly across the street is FARMERS BOTTEGA, truly AWESOME BREAKFAST,LUNCH and DINNER. Their Short Rib plates are DELICIOUS, and EVERYTHING is Fresh and farm to table. Whatever you do CHOOSE FARMERS BOTTEGA, YOU will not be dissapointed,the atmosphere is Excellent!!

We really enjoyed our visit to Jo’s. It’s been on my list for a while, and I’m glad we finally made it.
We stopped in after a day at Comic-Con with some family who also happened to be in San Diego. it was relatively late on a Sunday night, about 8PM (when they close at 9). They were perfectly accommodating for a party of 10 including a wheelchair.
All the food looked and tasted excellent and quite frankly I was shocked that nothing was “out” or “unavailable” considering the time of day. And we really ordered things from all across the menu, including French toast, pancakes, short rib French dip, steak frites. meatloaf, chili con carne, etc.
With a party of 10, you could imagine the diverse tastes and palates. And yet everybody loved everything that we had as we shared a lot across the table. It’s not too often you find a place where everyone likes everything on the menu, but that’s the case here at Jo’s diner.
I personally ordered the meat loaf and it was outstanding! One of the best I’ve ever had, truly tremendous. The bacon wrap was very crunchy, which added great texture and the demi-glace was amazingly flavourful. It was a featured item on DDD (Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives)

The food was fantastic, the restaurant pleasant but the truly greatest was the service!! Amy served us and she was fantastic! We ate short ribs French dip sandwiches and they were great. I had the Avocado, bacon sandwich which tasted great. We all chose tater tots which were hot and Crispy and tasted great. Amy made chocolate shake for our little boy and he loved it! He had breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage links which were big and yummy! He also had pancakes and he was happy eating it all. Amy made sure he was served first as he was “starving” by his own admission.
Everything was served hot, crispy, and delicious! The shake was made to order and delivered in a stainless steel tumbler so there was ample for a second glass and to even share.
If I could give Jo’s Diner a rating greater than 5 ‘s I certainly would!
I highly recommend Jo’s Diner! And if Amy serves you, you will be well taken care of, she’s the best!!

Love this place! Great for a quick drop in breakfast on a weekday. Great Bellinis and my fave is the breakfast burrito. It comes out fresh and hot every time. Kym is an excellent server with GREAT social skills and excellent customer service. When in Mission Hills, check out Jo’s…you’ll thank me!
