Wonderful service from Chris, delicious food and great music! The food costs an appropriate amount for a seafood restaurant and they focus on locally sourced seafood- the oysters that come from just down the road in Musselburgh come highly recommended. Overall a great experience and I shall be returning.

To be honest beginning wasn’t that good but the way that they managed to make me feel better was sooooo good, food brilliant (as always) not the first time I’ve been here, service even better! Waiters were so professional and so helpful that I was amazed! This place has some magical taste in my opinion, Portobello deserves place like this and I’m more than happy to recommend Joppa Rocks to everyone and I can promise, you won’t be disappointed!!! ❤️

FROZEN CHIPS! What a disappointment for a fish and chips takeaway to sell frozen chips. We’ve been here twice before and loved the chips, but you’ve lost a customer here. There’s other takeaways nearby who do it better.

Avoid at all costs. After stood queuing for way too long (over 20 minutes & 2 people in front) on new years day. Then to be handed what can only be described as embarrassing! The chips very few and very over done and the fish well you would get more fish in a fish finger! and very greasy. Reading the reviews it’s not the first post like this. There reply im sure will be like previous answers “give us another chance to get this right” Well sorry no I wouldn’t as you’ve been told numerous times before and still serve food like this. I will be uploading a picture so you can see for yourself.

Thank you so much! We came on Sunday afternoon with my family and had lunch, and congratulations to the chef. At last, a place that truly knows how to cook properly. We had fish with fried potatoes — the oil was fresh and clean, not that horrible old oil you often get, and the potatoes were fresh and delicious. We also had steamed mussels, which were absolutely amazing — the best we’ve had.
The food was fantastic, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the service was very kind and attentive. We will definitely come back. Everything was perfect!

Meal was only okay. Husband really enjoyed his fish and chips but my meal was just okay. Oysters didn’t seem as fresh as they could have been. And I didn’t like the seafood chowder. The broth had a nice flavour but it was just a bit blah. The bread had an oil on it which tasted a bit funky, like old olive oil. The location and view were spectacular and the gelato next door so good! Service was okay. They sat us upstairs which was a bit weird because the restaurant was quite empty.

I had a very disappointing experience at Joppa Rocks. From the moment we sat down, the service was extremely slow. It took around an hour and a half just to receive our starter, which is completely unacceptable for any restaurant.
To make matters worse, when the food finally arrived some of the orders were wrong. This meant even more waiting while things were corrected. During that time we noticed other customers around us becoming frustrated and even leaving because of how long everything was taking.
Unfortunately, the quality of the food didn’t make up for the wait either. What we received was poor in both presentation and taste, and certainly not worth the long delay. Overall the experience felt very substandard and poorly managed.
Sadly, this visit was a huge letdown and not somewhere I would choose to return to.
