Update: hit dinner time and was blown away at the quality!
I had a Stromboli, we had the Pesto chicken pasta, Johnny Special, slice of supreme and of course Chicken tenders.
We ordered a big create-your-own pizza, and it was perfectly cooked. Fresh, crisp crust. Good toppings, well-spread across the pie. Not too greasy from the meats, which is hard to pull off on an all meat pizza. And it was still warm when we got it home. Great job, Jonny’s! And a shout out to Dana, the owner, who went above and beyond to make sure our experience was great!
Ordered the most common New York style pizza. Visual appearance was not good. Nothing like the pictures they posted online. I gave three stars because the taste showed promise.
My wife and I love pizza when we go to New York and know that it’s very hard to get it right. I feel like they might actually get if they keep trying.
Saw some inconsistency in the cooking process. Sections were over cooked and just starting to burn while other parts were slightly undercooked. Plus he needs something for popping the bubbles better than what he was using. It damaged the pizza.
We will try again in a month! Good luck.
Over the years, I’ve tried hundreds of pizza places, hoping to find anything that resembles pizza I grew up eating in South Florida (AKA South New York).
I’ve found a few that quickly went downhill.
My first experience at Johnny’s was GREAT. Sauce was excellent. Crust was delicious. The cook was just right and it had that Flippy-but-not-too-floppy and greasy-but-not-too-greasy NY style that I love!
I hope my next visit is equally wonderful. Will update when the time comes.
Edit: second trip… still amazing.
Update: still eating here eight months later and it’s still great.
The food: awesome. I loved the cheese pizza. It is pricier than most pizza places. But it was really good for a cheese pizza. Hand tossed crust. It was thin but not thin crust. The sauce was perfect and what you would expect from an NYC pizza. Cheese was good. A solid pie. I ate all dice slices of the pizza.
My wife really enjoyed her Stromboli. Proclaimed how great it was. Took the leftovers home. There was an olive pit in there which almost broke a tooth. But the taste was there. A cup or marinara was served on the side which added an extra layer or flavor. The Stromboli itself was not lacking with filling. It was bursting with ingredients.
The service was good. They were responsive and seemed to be in good spirits. Mostly attentive. No weird attitudes. Eager to want to help.
It was a good experience and I look forward to them growing and making it better as they find their way. I will be back.
