The food was great and tasty just like it. If you want real authentic West African food, this is a great place to come. The debate between which jollof rice is better – Ghana or Nigeria??? It is still a debate The jollof was really good. It tasted just like our, Ghanaian, jollof..
I will let you decide . Go and enjoy food. You will not be disappointed. They give big portions so go with an empty stomach..
I want to start by saying that my experience at Jollof Etcetera has always been excellent. Just yesterday, my family and I dined in at the Annapolis location and everything went well—the servers were polite, welcoming, and appreciative. We truly enjoyed our meal and the overall experience.
Unfortunately, the experience at Jollof Etcetera in Silver Spring was the complete opposite.
On our way back to New Haven, my husband and I stopped at the Silver Spring location to order food. The young lady at the entrance had a very rude, unwelcoming attitude when taking our order. We ordered oat with oha soup, paid in full, and were never informed that oat was unavailable.
After waiting over 25 minutes, another staff member casually told us the item wasn’t available no apology, no courtesy, and then walked away. When the food was finally handed to us, there were no napkins, no spoons, and the staff seemed eager to dismiss us as quickly as possible.
Good customer service matters. If you’re having a bad day, professionalism should still come first especially in the service industry. The contrast between the Annapolis and Silver Spring locations is shocking.
Sadly, this would be my last visit to the Silver Spring location. Customer service travels fast, and this experience was deeply disappointing.
My coworkers and I visited today at 11:30 AM during our lunch break. Despite the restaurant advertising that it opens at 10 AM, the lone employee on duty appeared completely unprepared and disorganized. She could not clearly explain the menu or pricing, and it took an excessive amount of time just to place basic food and drink orders.
The situation only got worse. Drinks were handed to us still in the can, and one contained a visible piece of hair. The same employee repeatedly touched her hair while handling food, which was unsettling enough. But, the final straw was when she delivered the pepper sauce and stuck her THUMB directly into it, then still charged us for that same sauce.
As for the food: the jollof rice was undercooked, the beef was dry and overcooked, and overall the meal was not worth the nearly $30 per person we paid. When we asked for to-go boxes so we wouldn’t completely waste our money, we were given absurdly tiny containers that couldn’t even hold half the food.
What should have been a 30–60 minute lunch break turned into a 2-hour ordeal. We work in the area and make a point to support local businesses, but this experience was unsanitary, inefficient, and frustrating from start to finish.
We will absolutely not be returning, and cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, clean, or professionally run lunch spot.
In any case, it was all well and good that it looked nice, the question was how did it taste. The answer. . . Delicious! It tasted really good. What I had ordered was not typical. It was basically 3 side dishes namely the house salad, ‘Asun’ (roasted goat meat in spices) and fried ripe plantains also known as ‘Dodo’ if you grew up where I did. In any case all three dishes were well made and I was completely satisfied when I was done.
My server was also very friendly. She had a very nice smile and was very polite. It wasn’t busy while I was there and I think the Afro beats music that was playing was set to just the right volume to create a vibe without being to loud. Hope things go the same way next time I stop by. And yes there will be a next time.
I’ve been 3x total. Each time the service has been good. Relatively fast but also if they say it’s gonna take xxx minutes, it takes xxx minutes and I appreciate that.
The food portions are generous for the price point and tasty.
Although I took my food to go, I was able to sit in the dining area as I waited and it was well decorated with a private room for parties.
Staff was really friendly and eager to teach non Nigerians about the types of food.
