The self-serve setup was unique, and while there were no servers to be found (but a very friendly greeter and bar tender), it created a relaxed vibe. The courtyard itself was enchanting, adorned with beautiful greenery, twinkling lights, and a stage. We were a bit disappointed to have just missed the live music, as it would have been the perfect place to sit and listen to some music.
We also took some time to explore the game area, where we enjoyed a fun game of ping-pong. This place would be perfect for families with self-sufficient kids, but it was equally fabulous for our date night. Overall, JoJo’s offers a delightful blend of atmosphere, fun, and great drinks—definitely worth a visit!
CONs: Metered off-street parking. The set up was inconvenient for our liking.
The ambience reminded me of Old Town in San Diego and Los Colinas in Texas.
Being from out of town and visiting friends, we felt our time spent here was not comfy since we were trying to accommodate each other’s needs and watch our metered parking time.
However, don’t hesitate to try JoJo’s but be prepared:
You must place your orders at either bar; the order will be brought out to a shed structure for food pick up. Next to the food shed is silverware and a water dispenser with cups (other drinks you order at the bar). The confusing part was we weren’t told where to get our silverware, at the time, we were only informed of where to place our food order and drinks. Afterwards you bus your own table to an area next to the food shed. At the ‘beginning’ we were the only folks dining, the food porter could’ve just brought us our platters since we were sitting directly in front of the food shed. When we were leaving the bartender was greeting us ‘in’, we thanked him and said we were actually leaving. My husband thought it odd since he placed our food order with that bartender.
Nonetheless, we got to experience JoJo’s but it wasn’t our vibe.
If you’re in Tucson, please don’t miss this lovely little hidden gem!
The burger got mixed reviews, one fantastic the other “adequate”. No voiced opinions about the tacos but not a crumb was left on the tray.
Sadly, the “chicken shawarma” is a chicken sandwich on a baguette. Nothing shawarma about it.
The Basque cheesecake was also excellent but the orange torte took the cake – it was also superb. The chocolate muffins were… Uh… Vegan and gluten-free.
I would give the service 5 stars if I didn’t have to do everything myself – the people are friendly, nice, working very hard to take care of their customers.
Overall, the meal was well-received by all. The only disappointments were the “shawarma” add the cupcake.
As someone who is gluten free, dairy free I was able to find something to eat with no problem. They have their menu labeled so easily to accommodate allergies or dietary preferences. I got the birria tacos which were delicious, a bit too salty, but still good. My husband got the shawarma and had no complaints. Would definitely come back here!
