This is one of those “blink and you’ll miss it” gems. No big signs, no uniquely shaped building, off the side of the main road buffered by the parking lot. This cozy little café-style spot is charming considering its unassuming exterior. The friendly crew were helpful and polite.
We both ordered the onion burger, as this is what was recommended before we came. And though we both expected more onions on an onions burger, everything turned out amazing! Their fries are unique as I have not seen anyone else try “shoestring, boardwalk fries.” There are no toppings, including salt on the burgers or fries. Additions cost extra for your burger – lettuce, tomato, jalapeños, bacon, cheese, etc. Portions are generous, prices are very fair! We even left with a slice of oreo pie! Definitely a spot we’ll revisit in the near future!

I moved here in 2018 and Johnnie’s has always been my go to place with my 2 kiddos for breakfast and lunch. They’re always nice and welcome you in and make you feel they’re happy you are their. I’m not saying that I don’t like the other onion burger’s around town but Johnnie’s is more comfortable and has way more seating unlike Sid’s. Thank you for existing. 🙂

Johnnie’s Hamburgers & Coneys
Very sad day today the employees of this establishment today @ 1300 really disgusting! Many of you know I suffer from PTSD along with a lot of my fellow Vets well as we walked in my had my sweet Honey who is a service dog and as we walked in we where greater with hostility without a hi and or welcome.. not even all the way in the door they where hostile NO Dogs allowed! Calmly. Replied and said this is my service dog. Yeah well if it’s a service dog show us your papers right now and prove it! As I began to pull out her card, the waitress and I am assuming cook where started to argue with my wife when she made the comment stating that you know it’s illegal to ask for papers? My wife is not a conflictive person at all and was like no we will just leave after I had already pulled out the card to show them. At that point she felt like we where going to be treated rude and hateful because it was clear we where not welcomed!!! When I pulled out my phone she “was like what are you going to do call the police on me? ” I just shook my head and said yeah as I walked out the door.

The cook or man also behind the counter stated that they also have the right to refuse service to anyone they want.. so it’s clear that even after I showed my papers we where not going to be welcome.

If you are the owners of this place I would highly recommend training or re training of your staff… the last time I came in there, the woman who was waiting on us gave us such a good vibe and took care of us and it was wonderful food and service… Now after this I feel sick to my tummy and of course when the guy behind the counter started to get loud and hateful too I took everything in me to keep my cool and not allow this or these people to trigger me. So if you know this place spread the word maybe it will reach the owners and change the environment!

Great onion smash burgers! Great onion rings and fresh cut fries! Everything was delicious and hit the spot. Everything was made to order and piping hot when brought to our table. Our waitress and patient and knowledgeable, she was excellent in her service. The cooks did a great job keeping up with orders. Definitely worth a stop…they have many other options than just burgers, give them a try!

I’ve been meaning to try Johnnie’s, a Rt66 staple, for several years now. I finally had the chance to stop in and see for myself if it lives up to everything I’ve read and seen in Rt66 travel guide and YouTube videos.
I’m happy to say that it isn’t hype, it’s just that good.
Johnnie’s has been open since 1946, and is my favorite kind of restaurant. It has a great short order menu, and the service was outstanding. The employees were friendly, and even though there was a good lunch crowd, they were also very attentive.
I ordered an original Oklahoma Onion Burger with cheese, a Coney with chili and slaw, a half order of shoe string fries, and a slice of Coconut cream pie.
The burger was just the right blend of bitter and sweet from the grilled onion. The fries were perfect and hand cut. The coney was an actual red Coney (if you know, you know) and the chili and slaw were both house made. The pie is also house made and they have a very large desert menu.
The other thing I cant emphasize enough is the value. I could only eat about half of each of my items thanks to generous portions. My entire meal cost less than a single hamburger at a trendy ‘burger joint’.
If you are a fan of history and want to experience a true old fashioned meal, try Johnnie’s!

So we were in El Reno for a soccer tournament and needed lunch so we stopped by Johnnie’s Hamburgers and Coneys. My son and I had a double meat onion burger. My daughter and other son had a crispy chicken wrap. We had a half order of fries and onion rings to share. The burger was very greasy and the onions weren’t cooked quite enough for my liking (still a little too firm) and it lacked seasoning. All the condiments and toppings were on the side so I guess the expectation was I put my own salt on my meat. Their fries looked hand cut and were shoestring style, which isn’t my favorite, but they were good quality. Onion rings were standard issue frozen and just ok. Their ranch was really nice though! Service was fast and friendly. There’s too many delicious (and cheaper) burgers out there for this to ever make a top 10 list for me but it filled our bellies which was the main point I reckon.

My husband had lived in OK over 20 years and never heard of the famous onion burger and then we read about El Reno being the place to get the best of the best. We drove up from Dallas to try it out.

Since my husband was set on doing the onion burger crawl the only food purchased was the onion burger no frills, bun, patty and lots of onions! To see what the hoopla was all about we stopped at Johnnie’s first it was amazing! Totally worth it! The grilled onions brought a lot to the party! the burger was on the smaller side but since we were doing the crawl it was the perfect size! Didn’t add ketchup or mustard at first. Didn’t need it. Definitely recommend stopping here.

The staff was super friendly.

Phenomenally friendly staff and great food. I had breakfast and went back for lunch. Just a simple sausage egg and cheese biscuit rivaled any I’ve had. Went back for an onion burger that turned out to be the best I’ve had.
Great atmosphere. Enjoyed sitting at the counter and watching the impressive cooks. Do not know how they keep up, but it’s fun to watch.

First off this place is so over priced its not funny. Im in town for work and figured id try some local restaurants, I called in an order and paid 16.50 for a double hamburger (plain no cheese no anything), a 1/2 order of fries, and a small sweet tea. The burger was mediocre at best (no flavor or seasoning), the fries were real thin and soggy cooked in what tasted like really old grease and were pretty cold when I got them (again absolutely no flavor or seasoning), the team was pretty spot on though. The guy who took my order off the phone was pretty cool, the gal who completed my transaction was nice enough, but for 1 burger, fries, and a tea it was insanely expensive. Do yourself a favor and go a block west to roberts, much better food at half the price.

Been eating here for 30 years. Price had gradually climbed as should be expected. This morning I got 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 1 biscuit with gravy and a drink. It was $21+ for just that 10-12$ anywhere else I go. Last time for me to eat there.
