I love the BBQ – My friend and I both ate there. The ribs where tender. Almost fell right off the bone, It was so good. And the sauce was finger licking good.
We got two sides each. I got the mac and cheese and beans. She got the patio salad and collard greens. All and all the restaurant atmosphere was quite good. We will go back and get more ribs soon.
It is a mom and pop place – Driven to have good quality and service. You will love it a lot.
My girlfriend said that the workers where cute that worked there. 🙂
If you have not gone there, and you love ribs, it is the place to check out and have a meal at.

Great brisket the sauce was slightly spicy but not overpowering the brisket was fall apart tender just the right amount of fat for me. The interior of the restaurant while not dirty can leave a little to be desired. This is definitely a awesome lunch location if your in the area. Be warned though they offer canned drinks instead of a fountain which for some people might be an issue.

The BEST BBQ around!!! The sides are amazing as well and you can’t beat the price either! The ribs are fall off the bone tinder – 1/2 rack dinner with 2 sides is $12!!! The food is fresh made everyday, so they might run out of something you want, trust me just try something else. You won’t be disappointed!!!

I was really excited to see a new small BBQ joint open up near by that wasn’t main stream. Huge marketing thing for them was that i had to drive through the morning smoke on my way to work. I had to try it and I was ready to have a new favorite BBQ joint!! I have been twice for dinner to go. Both times I ordered in house and got the individual 2 combo. Both times I got the same thing, sausage and pork. The reason I ordered the same thing was to see if the experience was going to be different. Both times the sausage was mushy and the casing didn’t have that pop when I bit into it. I’m not necessarily a texture person but I couldn’t finish the sausage either time. For having the giant twin smoker out front, the sausage was missing smoke flavor as well. It’s as if they warm the sausage in the pit but then let them sit in water until ordered. Then I tried the pork. Both times it was dry and lacked smoke flavor, or any flavor at all. I don’t understand how anything lacks a smoke flavor with that beautiful huge dual pit sitting out front. Sides are also lacking. They are served in a tiny container, and also lack that signature BBQ flavor and the small joint home cooked feeling. I hate to say it but I would rather go to Sonny’s than ever eat at Johnny Mack’s again.

Their BBQ is great, there’s no doubt, however they are not especiallywarm or friendly. I mistakenly ordered a “Large order of BBQ pork” instead of saying “Family size”. Instead of correcting me he said,”Large? That means nothing to me.” then groaned as I asked to order some buns as well. If you can deal with the attitude you’ll enjoy the food
Also, the sides are lacking. Compared to other BBQ restaurants in the area Johnnie Mack’s probably has the most limited, not-unique menu.

My friend Lisa an I both ordered the same lunch today. Pulled pork with slaw sandwich and a side of their homemade mac and cheese. It was incredible!! I’m not sure if Kenny is the owner but he is the nicest guy ever!!! I highly recommend this bbq restaurant…. Rich Schanno

I went here about a year ago and the service sucked and the pork sandwich I had was very dry. Well I decided to give this place another shot as its on my way home from work everyday and WOW has it changed! The people working there are friendly now!!! Not like the young white kid working there last time I was there. ALSO THE BBQ IS FALL OFF THE BONE COOKED PERFECT!!! Try them out. The only thing I see them lacking is beer with the bbq. If there was beer there im sure there would be groups eating and drinking daily. Thanks guys! Just drove by sept 28th 2016 and they are closed. Gave it a good run guys!! Good luck out there…

Best smoked beef BBQ in St Petersburg! I recommend 3 mom and pop places and this is one. (Also Astra Pizza and Zom Hee for Chinese ) The Pork is OK but a little too fatty for mt taste, the BEEF is where it is at. Gave me the Big Jonnie Beef with extra sauce please! Their beans are also delicious! I highly recommend!

Johnnie Mack’s just catered our corporate event and the food was delicious! Pulled Pork, Chicken, Ribs, Cole Slaw and Potato Salad. The meat was tender and the flavor was incredible.

Awesome! We have used them for catering twice now for work and everything has been soooo good. We used to use Sonny’s occasionally, but never again. This is best bbq I may have ever had, and everyone in the office has been saying the same thing. Not to mention they drove all the way to Palm Harbor to deliver. Thanks Curt!! You guys are fantastic!
