Oh my God. This off-the-beaten-track restaurant has meat of the highest order. We ate our way through the manageable menu, up and down. One dish was tastier than the other. All in all, certainly not cheap, but definitely worth the money. Easy ordering process directly at the counter and the food is freshly prepared for you. I am really very convinced of this concept of food. i love this food The meat was so tender and juicy I can’t remember eating it of this quality. My absolute recommendation. An extra journey is definitely recommended here, take your time – I promise you won’t be disappointed! My absolute recommendation!

Probably one of the best BBQ I’ve had in NYC and that’s saying a lot. Excellent ribs. Chicken was soft and moist but loved the ribs and BBQ sauce. Fries were awesome too. Maybe I’ll go again this week!

Not sure if it was the time of the day, we came on a Friday evening for dinner – we ordered the pulled pork, brisket, sausage, Mac n Cheese, collard greens and cornbread. The brisket was really underwhelming/felt dry, and it felt like it wasn’t really fresh, I would give a one star for it – dry and did not have good flavors. The sausage was probably a 2.5 star, it was spicy which was fine, but the meat felt dry within. The pull pork was a lot better – probably a 4 star. The sides (esp the Mac n Cheese) were pretty good but overall the mains were kinda disappointing.

Their bbq ribs are decent, just like what you would expect from a decent bbq place, but it didn’t stand out that much. Their cornbread though is superb. A must try at this place.

I’ve dined at John Brown several times in the past and the food is usually pretty good. Keep in mind they’re the only bbq restaurant in Astoria. While the burnt ends was tasty, the sides were overcooked and overpriced. The woman that busses the tables is always friendly and accommodating. While completing a very expensive order, I inquired if my tip would be split between the cashier and the busser, the cashier informed me that they were two separate tip pools. This is unfortunate news because I watch for nearly an hour as she bussed tables and cleaned up after people and many neglected to leave a tip. That was unfortunate to see.
