If you are looking for the quintessential Chicago-style eatery experience, look no further than Joey’s Red Hots. There is a specific kind of magic found in a local spot that stays consistently busy, and Joey’s has mastered the art of the “neighborhood staple.” Every time I visit, I’m reminded why this place has such a loyal following: the food is consistently excellent, the atmosphere is buzzing, and the soul of the restaurant is fueled by a team that truly outworks the crowd.
The Food: Exactly What You Crave
The most important factor in any review is, of course, the food. At Joey’s, the quality never wavers. Every order comes out piping hot, which is surprisingly hard to find in the fast-casual world these days. Whether you’re grabbing a classic hot dog, a Maxwell Street Polish, or a burger, you can tell the ingredients are fresh and cooked with care.
Yes, the food is a bit greasy—but in the best way possible. It’s that authentic, indulgent “roadside stand” style that hits the spot when you want a meal that is satisfying and unpretentious. The fries are crisp, the buns are soft, and the flavors are bold. It is the definition of delicious comfort food.
The Atmosphere: A Good Sign of Success
One thing you’ll notice immediately upon arrival is that Joey’s is almost always busy. While a line out the door might intimidate some, I’ve always viewed it as a glowing endorsement. People don’t flock to a place like this unless the reward is worth the wait. There is a great energy to the building—a mix of families, locals on their lunch breaks, and travelers stopping in for a reliable bite. It feels alive, vibrant, and successful.
The Staff: Hardworking Under Pressure
Perhaps the most impressive part of the Joey’s experience is watching the staff handle the rush. It is clear that these workers are sometimes spread thin; during peak hours, it seems like they could definitely use a few more hands on deck to keep up with the massive crowds.
However, despite being under-staffed at times, the employees are absolute powerhouses. They work incredibly hard to ensure orders are completed quickly and accurately. You can see the hustle in real-time. They manage the chaos with a level of efficiency that is honestly admirable, making sure that even when the restaurant is packed to the gills, your food doesn’t sit cooling on a counter. They prioritize the customer’s time, and that dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.
Final Verdict
I really enjoy going to Joey’s Red Hots. It isn’t just about the meal; it’s about supporting a place that clearly cares about the product they put out. You might have to navigate a crowd, and you might see a team working double-time to keep up, but the end result is always a hot, well-cooked, and mouth-watering meal.
If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and drop in. Just be prepared for a crowd—and bring an appetite!

We’ve gone here soooo many times! Such a great addition to Orland and in the perfect location! The drive thru is a breeze! Everyone is always so friendly and the service is so fast! But the food…every single thing we’ve gotten is delicious and at such great prices!! The pizza is my fave thing to get from here, even just the cheese has soooo much flavor and the crust is the best! Love this place! 5 stars!

We catered Joeys for a staff luncheon. Everything was phenomenal. Food was delivered on time, the driver was happy to help set up, and the food was delicious. Anthony maximized our budget and was happy to accommodate such a large order. We look forward to catering with Joeys again!

First time at this location. It is very clean and has plenty of seating.
The kitchen runs slow, waiting for food that should come out faster.
The only negative is that they won’t give you free water and make you purchase a water bottle if you dine in.
Had the chicken Paramgiaan, which was a large portion, but pricey. Tast was good, but they put way too much cheese, which overpowered the dish.
My wife ordered the Chicken gyro and salad also large portions.
The Garlic bread was good and needs less salt to make it perfect.
Overall good food, but needs improvement for the kitchen time, orders a very slow to come out, not recommend for a quick bite.
Also, beware that they charge A Credit Card Fee $$ to customers, which I think is terrible that they pass it on to their customers.
I revisited on 01 July 2024 at 130pm and lowered my original ratings. The kitchen times have NOT IMPROVED, and I ordered the Philly Chesse steak sandwich and was disappointed in the taste and quality of the bread. They used stale bread roll which fell apart, and the sandwich was not good, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Been driving past this place every week for a while now and finally stopped there today. I really had a taste for a beef sandwich so I grabbed a beef dipped and a fry. Got to say I’ll definitely be back for a beef sandwich when ever I get another craving. GREAT BEEF!!! I also look forward to trying many other menu options.

Chicago favorites in the Southwest suburbs. My husband had the Chicago dog and I had the Maxwell Syreet Polish. Both were very authentic and came with freshly made French fries. It was pretty busy at lunchtime and I can see why. Good food at a reasonable price.

Wow after all of the hype food was so incredibly disappointing… Lets start with flavor…. Loaded fries were crinkle cut with fries as expected with cheese that had absolutely no flavor. There are various brands of cheeses restaurants can purchase that come in big cans you just reheat.. cheddars and jalepeno cheeses. This tasted like the bottom tier cheap orange goop.. and unfortunately they used the same cheese on the nacho platter. That was even worse. Who makes a nacho platter without using nacho cheese??? A bit of advice.. when you buy your cans of cheddar cheese pay the extra couple bucks for the good brand and get some nacho cheese too they are the same price. And throw a little taco seasoning in the meat. The “ ground taco meat” had zero flavor. Tasted like plain ground beef. The crazy part is that it all looked great but just no flavor. I will say the lettuce and tomato was super fresh but that’s about all that was good. The beef sandwich was good but nothing special that I can’t get anywhere else. The gyro meat was the same. Tasted good like anywhere else. It was busy with lots of people enjoying their meals and there are plenty of menu options but we won’t be back. We have plenty of fast food burger / dog places closer to home so will just stick with those. I was hopeful because we have had their food trucks and catering at events and it was delicious!! But another $50 down the drain .

The pizza is soooo good!!!!! So is the beef burrito! Nom nom nom!!!
The vibe/decor is like a modern 50’s diner. There is also a mini casino inside. The ice cream
We only had 45 min to spare for lunch, did not really want “fast food” but had to pick something that would be fast. Sure glad we picked this place. Something new, so not sure what to expect. But pleasantly surprised. Definitely recommend!!!

This is the second time eating at the Joeys on 159th in Orland Hills. The value is good, but both times the hot dog bun was hard. I thought hot dog places steamed their buns. They should either get fresh buns or steam them. There was no way they didn’t know when they pick up that bun that it wasn’t stale

FINALLY! A restaurant we can order delivery from where the food is delicious, the portions are large, the order is correct, and the prices aren’t outrageous. Their cream of chicken soup, garden salad, gyros, and chicken “frankly” were great. No more disappointments.
