During our visit with friends, the restaurant was very crowded, and despite a 7:00 pm reservation, we were not seated until about 7:30. We spent time at the bar, which looks great but felt understaffed, with slow service and little attention. Once seated, the space was cozy and well-lit. Steaks were solid but the calamari appetizer and the fish dish were not as good. Overall, I’d say Joey D’s delivered on atmosphere and steaks, but service timing and some menu items could use improvement.
=================================================
I go to Joey D’s Oak Room a few times a year since my team at work loves it, and it’s only down the street from the Cox campus. Tonight (Oct. 25th at 6:30), I took my family and a friend there to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday. The evening started nicely — we were seated outdoors (since it’s usually super loud inside and my mother-in-law doesn’t like that). We were enjoying some laughs, and the food was decent as usual. But when our appetizers, lemon pepper wings and croissants arrived, we realized there were no utensils or napkins. We just laughed it off at first.
However, things took a strange turn when our server disappeared around the time we were finishing our main course. We wanted to order dessert to celebrate the birthday, but we sat for over 30 minutes without anyone checking on us. At that point, we were the only people sitting outside and felt completely forgotten. My husband went to the host stand to ask for help, but no one came for quite a while. Finally, my friend went inside to complain, and our original server came out with no explanation and no apology.
Maybe it was a really busy night, but when my husband spoke to the host, they asked for our server’s name — which she had never shared with us in the first place. None of us knew her name, and we expected that the manager would step in at that point. It’s clear the staff could use better training in communication and customer service, as experiences like this can easily hurt the restaurant’s reputation.
In the end, we just left the restaurant without getting any dessert and without any kind of birthday celebration or candles. Honestly, I didn’t expect this kind of service from a steakhouse like Joey D’s. To make things worse, even though we had noted it was my mother-in-law’s birthday, there was no acknowledgment from the staff at all.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I’m not sure I’d want to come back.
Our server, Khalil, was incredible the most amazing smile—so attentive, kind, and genuine. He made us feel valued the entire time. We were cold at our first table, and he happily moved us without hesitation. His drink recommendations were perfect too!
The ambiance and food were great, but the service truly put everything over the top. We will definitely be back. If you go, ASK FOR KHALIL
Whether the occasion is casual, date night, or family focused—some of our best moments have been celebrated at the Oak Room. We even celebrated our post-civil ceremony here with family, fun, and curated wine selections. Now in 2026, Joey D’s has updated their menu, adding a limited $8 martini special. While I hope the Shrimp D’Angelo returns—the entire menu is delicious. Servers like Steven, David, Cookie, and many others keep us coming back for more. A must try, with the BEST She Crab Soup in Atlanta!
She was friendly, checked in on us at just the right moments, and made us feel genuinely welcome.
The experience was amazing that we made a point to let the GM know. We’re definitely looking forward to coming back.
