This classic American steakhouse is obviously a well-known Perimeter-area spot with lively atmosphere, visually striking bar lined with hundreds of bottles, generally upscale too. It is typically energetic and busy, making it a popular choice for group dinners and social nights out.

During our visit with friends, the restaurant was very crowded, and despite a 7:00 pm reservation, we were not seated until about 7:30. We spent time at the bar, which looks great but felt understaffed, with slow service and little attention. Once seated, the space was cozy and well-lit. Steaks were solid but the calamari appetizer and the fish dish were not as good. Overall, I’d say Joey D’s delivered on atmosphere and steaks, but service timing and some menu items could use improvement.

UPDATE: I’ve adjusted my rating from 1 to 4. I never meant to harm the restaurant’s reputation. I just hope this review gets management’s attention and helps ensure proper follow-up with the staff. Andrew, there’s no need to make it up to us. I just hope no one else has the experience we did. All in all, I wish you and the team well.

I go to Joey D’s Oak Room a few times a year since my team at work loves it, and it’s only down the street from the Cox campus. Tonight (Oct. 25th at 6:30), I took my family and a friend there to celebrate my mother-in-law’s birthday. The evening started nicely — we were seated outdoors (since it’s usually super loud inside and my mother-in-law doesn’t like that). We were enjoying some laughs, and the food was decent as usual. But when our appetizers, lemon pepper wings and croissants arrived, we realized there were no utensils or napkins. We just laughed it off at first.

However, things took a strange turn when our server disappeared around the time we were finishing our main course. We wanted to order dessert to celebrate the birthday, but we sat for over 30 minutes without anyone checking on us. At that point, we were the only people sitting outside and felt completely forgotten. My husband went to the host stand to ask for help, but no one came for quite a while. Finally, my friend went inside to complain, and our original server came out with no explanation and no apology.

Maybe it was a really busy night, but when my husband spoke to the host, they asked for our server’s name — which she had never shared with us in the first place. None of us knew her name, and we expected that the manager would step in at that point. It’s clear the staff could use better training in communication and customer service, as experiences like this can easily hurt the restaurant’s reputation.

In the end, we just left the restaurant without getting any dessert and without any kind of birthday celebration or candles. Honestly, I didn’t expect this kind of service from a steakhouse like Joey D’s. To make things worse, even though we had noted it was my mother-in-law’s birthday, there was no acknowledgment from the staff at all.

Overall, it was a disappointing experience, and I’m not sure I’d want to come back.

My fiancé and I went to Joey D’s Oak Room and OMG—it was amazing! From the moment we walked in, Leila greeted us with the warmest smile and made us feel so welcome. It was our first time, so we asked for recommendations and ordered everything she suggested, and baby, it did NOT disappoint!
Our server, Khalil, was incredible the most amazing smile—so attentive, kind, and genuine. He made us feel valued the entire time. We were cold at our first table, and he happily moved us without hesitation. His drink recommendations were perfect too!
The ambiance and food were great, but the service truly put everything over the top. We will definitely be back. If you go, ASK FOR KHALIL

I have been to Joey D’s twice now and was disappointed both times. On this most recent visit, I was with a large group, which the restaurant was unable to accommodate even though we had reservations. Not to mention the manager was rude to us, acting as though it was our fault. Our server was adequate but not friendly in any way. The restaurant is poorly lit making it difficult to see what you are even eating. The food is good not great but with the other factors and the price, it’s a wonder this place stays as busy as it does.

Definitely recommend! Jasmine was the best waitress I actually ever had. Super professional, very cool and attentive! The food was scrumptious and arrived in a timely fashion. I would return for service like this.

Went here for a work dinner and was, and I hate to say it this way, surprised. What I mean is for this price point, the food and service were both excellent, and I only gave it 4 stars for the atmosphere because it felt like I should be in an old-school steakhouse. The martini was near perfect, plenty of room for the group without feeling crowded.

Let me preface this review by saying the overall experience was great! Our waiter Camille was amazing! She was very patient and gave great recommendations! The crab claws were my reason of returning and they did not disappoint! My gentleman friend enjoyed his ribeye and sides! Cooked to perfection! I ordered the beef rib fettuccine and it was underwhelming. No flavor whatsoever. I was very disappointed with the dish. The presentation was nothing like whats shown on the official social media page. Camille offered to replace with something else but I figured I could fix it later. The strawberry lemon drop definitely made up for it! I will definitely be returning when we are back in town and hope that Camille can be our waiter again!

Around the mid 2000s(before DoorDash and Uber), Atlanta experienced its first ice storm—making travel difficult due to limited state weather experience; But Joey D’s consistently delivered tasty eats to Brookhaven. Once thawed, we checked this gem out and haven’t looked back since!

Whether the occasion is casual, date night, or family focused—some of our best moments have been celebrated at the Oak Room. We even celebrated our post-civil ceremony here with family, fun, and curated wine selections. Now in 2026, Joey D’s has updated their menu, adding a limited $8 martini special. While I hope the Shrimp D’Angelo returns—the entire menu is delicious. Servers like Steven, David, Cookie, and many others keep us coming back for more. A must try, with the BEST She Crab Soup in Atlanta!

Had an amazing late lunch here. Have been here repeatedly and it has always been consistent. Had the French dip….the “dip” is a bowl of bench onion soup. Amazing! A great place for any business meetings or lunch/dinner with friends and family’s . Service was great too! Great bourbon and wine choices too!

Amanda at Joey’s D’s was fantastic. We stopped in briefly for light bites and drinks, but her energy and attention made the visit memorable.

She was friendly, checked in on us at just the right moments, and made us feel genuinely welcome.

The experience was amazing that we made a point to let the GM know. We’re definitely looking forward to coming back.
