Not to date ourselves… but it’s been about 12 years of coming here whenever we can, even driving in from Dallas and passing multiple other places on the way. What keeps bringing us back is the hospitality. The owner (or the lady who runs the restaurant) makes you feel like you’re her grandkid — literally like family. We’re greeted as soon as we walk in, and the servers are always attentive and polite.
The food is really good and not overpriced. You can tell this place has stayed open all these years because of those main factors: great service, consistent food, and a welcoming atmosphere. You’ll notice a lot of elderly guests dining here, and I’m sure it’s because they feel comfortable and at home. There are regulars in here all the time.
The establishment really hasn’t changed — same décor, same colors, same everything. It feels like a true mom-and-pop spot frozen in time. It gives a 90s-era aesthetic, not because it’s trendy, but because that’s genuinely how long (if not longer) it’s been around. Everything around it has changed, but this spot has stood the test of time.
My wife used to run a restaurant, and on our most recent visit she explained why she enjoys coming here so much. She pointed out things I probably would’ve never noticed. Even though the place isn’t flashy or modern, they clearly take pride in maintaining it. The windows are clean. The curtains are clean. The booth upholstery isn’t cracked or damaged. Same with the chairs. Floors are swept, tables are wiped down — everything is well kept. That speaks volumes.
The food is classic American diner style — the kind of comfort food you grow up with. In 12+ years of coming here, we’ve never had bad food or a bad experience. That kind of consistency is rare.
If you’re looking for a place that feels like home, with good food and even better hospitality, this is it.
The food is always great, the PIES!!! Are amazing! We recently had the apple, strawberry and the pineapple cream cheese pie.
All the workers were great, very attentive and filled our coffees! Will definitely go back!
I visit daily, and on holidays I often come with my wife and children as well. Whenever guests arrive from overseas and wish to experience a genuine Texas breakfast, this is always my first choice. Consistently excellent in every respect ” a well ” deserved five stars.
I was disappointed with the server that we had. She didn’t seem friendly. I was expecting that service was going to be great based off of all the other reviews on here. We almost felt that she didn’t want us there. For this reason… I ate one of my biscuits with gravy and she came and took the plate away before I could finish my other biscuit. I was still eating the other half of my bacon, eggs, and grits so I’m not sure why she would take my biscuits and gravy away. I should’ve said something but she already walked away and we just moved here so I didn’t want to start anything! Very disappointed!
The breakfast was good though. I did want to bring the rest of my family here to try other food they have on the menu. However, not sure if we would like to come back because of the server! The server had glasses if this would help the owner speak to her about her service.
Food: 5 stars
Service: 1 star
Owner (I think she was! She was doing the books.): 5 stars
Exactly HOW would you have responded to the problems I outlined, in my initial ‘review’?
You could not have changed the attitude of the cash register person; you could NOT have made any change to the fact tat it took longer than usual to get our order. You could have sent the overcooked omlette back, but to what avail? Another 15 to 30 minute wait?
Sorry, this was just a very bad experience, and I doubt complaining in person, at the time would have changed ANYTHING.
Hopefully you can use THIS exchange to make it a better experience for someone else.
Came here after early morning Doctor appoitment. Did NOT want to go to Mickey D, or Whataburger (which would have been a MUCH BETTER choice).
Immediate sesting, a +;friendly wait person, also a +.
After perusing the menu, finally made a decision; a “Vegetarian Omelette”, with home fries, bisquit & gravy, for me; and a Belgian Waffle for my companion. After taking our order, there was a GREAT deal of time, before finally getting our food. The waffle was tough, and tasted like leftover wheat bread; the butter & syrup did not help the flavor. I was cocnerned, so I tasted it, it really was BAD!
My omelette was over cooked, and the only vegetables in it were celery, green beans, and some undetermined green mass. The gravy was WONDERFUL; the bisquits were tough, and the bottoms were over cooked, and hard to cut.
I have been to Joe’s many times for lunch and dinner in the past. When Carol was still alive, it was the go to place, but, like so many other places, their past reputation has diminished greatly!
When I was checking out, the insolent cashier was very rude. I simply asked her IF they did Military discount, or Senior discount or AARP;she said rudely, NO, NO DISCOUNTS!
It will be a very cold day in HELL before I venture back to this establishment.
I truly feel sorry for the people that are going to lose their jobs, when Joe’s folds, as it will!
