JJ’s Island Grindz in Bonita brings a vibrant island atmosphere right to the San Diego area, blending Guamanian, Hawaiian, Japanese, and Pacific flavors in a warm, laid-back setting. The friendly staff and tiki-accented décor create a welcoming vibe, and the enclosed patio—often paired with live music or DJ nights—makes it feel like a casual backyard celebration.

The menu is a feast of tropical comfort foods: standout items include tangy chicken kelaguen served cold with coconut and citrus, succulent kalua pork, juicy huli-huli chicken, hearty Chamorro combo plates, and expansive sushi rolls and bowls. Many dishes come with red rice, macaroni salad, or potato salad, giving a satisfying, home-cooked feel. Unique starters like beef lumpia, empanadas, shrimp patties, and garlic edamame are perfect for sharing, encouraging a communal dining experience.

Portions are generous—most patrons take home leftovers—and the quality consistently scores high across platforms (around 4.6 stars). Drinks like the massive Kahealani’s Wave cocktail add to the festive mood, making it ideal for group gatherings or casual nights out. Whether you’re in for bold island BBQ or just craving big sushi rolls in a fun setting, JJ’s delivers a flavorful escape with aloha spirit.

If you’re craving a true island dining experience—vibrant, flavorful, and fun—JJ’s Island Grindz hits all the right notes. From bold Chamorro and Hawaiian dishes to fresh sushi, shareable cocktails, and an unforgettable communal vibe, this place captures the spirit of the Pacific. It’s perfect for celebrating, hanging out with friends, or just escaping into great food and good times.

JJ’s Island Grindz is an absolute gem in Bonita, conveniently located right across the street from Aurora Park. One of the first things you’ll notice is how easy it is to find parking—since it’s right in front of a large parking lot, there’s typically plenty of space available. The restaurant itself is impressively spacious, with a fantastic outdoor seating area that’s pet-friendly. While indoor seating is slightly limited, they’ve got a connected bar area just to the side of the main space with more high-top counter seating, which is a great option if the main dining area is full.

The menu here is huge—almost overwhelming at first because there are so many options to choose from! But once you land on something, you’ll be blown away by the portion sizes and the affordability. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the amount of food you get. The entire place exudes tropical island vibes with a fun tiki theme, and even the staff uniforms reflect that. The team here is super friendly, upbeat, and welcoming, really embodying that laid-back aloha spirit.

I ordered the Chamorro plate, and it was absolutely massive! For just $23, I got four tender, flavorful ribs, two large scoops of red rice, a generous helping of creamy potato salad, and a cup of chopped chicken in a bright, citrusy dressing that was incredibly refreshing. My friend went with the Musubi (not “Matsubi”!), which is a Spam, rice, and seaweed roll—kind of like a sushi roll but with that signature island twist. He absolutely raved about it, saying it was one of the best he’s had.

If you’re into tiki drinks or just looking for a fun place to grab a beer, JJ’s has you covered there too. Their drink menu is full of tropical-themed cocktails that perfectly match the island vibe.

This is definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to, and I highly recommend stopping by if you’re ever in the area. Whether you’re here for a quick bite, a drink, or a full-on island feast, JJ’s Island Grindz is a must-visit!

It’s still a great place to come to.
Always a joy to come over and reminisce Guam food, a taste of home.
Servers are always a joy to chat and mingle with.
Music is nice to jam to, and if you come in the right days and time, they have karaoke for you to get on the mic and sing.
Come for the food and stay for a good time~

This place is amazing! No pictures since my phone died before I could take them, but the food, service, and the live entertainment of patron singers were fantastic!

It’s definitely a place to be at for some good Guam food, being born from there and all.
The red rice, kadon pika, the combo plate… yuuum. I also recommend getting the sushi burritos. They’re delicious!

Going there for our little nephew’s birthday was swell. He fell asleep before the servers could sing him a happy birthday, but they were kind enough to give us a slice of dessert to take home for him.
Everyone was really nice, and even the chef came out to hear our compliments to the amazing food they made for us. They do know how to take care of us.

Much love to everyone there~ ❤️

The staff were nice and the food looked good but taste was mediocre. I got the Chicken Katsu Curry with a side of macaroni salad. The macaroni salad had a weird funky taste to it my whole family didn’t like it. The Katsu was good and the curry tasted nice but it was so watery it was more like a curry soup. My brother didn’t really like the chicken he got either. The lumpias were good though. It’s was nice to try but probably wouldn’t come back.

The secret place in Bonita that needs to be discovered! The BEST local Asian Fusion.

Went back again and wow. I’d didn’t disappoint. They opened up the bar and this place is thriving!
Got the Mahi Mahi (soft tender and fresh! So delish!) and hubby got a seafood burrito.
Fresh and large sized burrito!

Went back again, and again! It’s 9/29/2022 and we are back, this time not only Da Guam Bomb Rolls, but the Ahi Poke Sushi rolls!

Went back for Round 3! 03/18/22. Kamakazi Roll, Da Guam Bomb Roll, Chicken Kelaguen, and yummy, yummy, scrumptious!!

I went back for Round 2! Yummy!!!
To update 1/16/22 was the 3rd time to this restaurant. We chose Ramen Beef and Chicken (Katsu) Ramen, the Pizza and Kamakazi Roll. We are a fan of much of what we ate each time. But we are not a fan of the Ramen, lumpia or empanada. We would suggest that a Filipino joint for lumpia and more of a Ramen sushi place for your Ramen. We thoroughly enjoyed the Kamakazi Roll, which is now our favorite along with the Da Guam Bomb Roll!

Amazing food and the service is great. Tried the spicy garlic edamame and the Islander Sampler to start. They were both perfect. The Sampler has empanadas that are so crispy on the outside and filled with chicken and rice . The teriyaki chicken wings had plenty of meat and really good sauce on them. There were also beef lumpia and shrimp patties, both cooked perfectly. For the main course, I got the Chamorro Combo. Uncle Franks pork ribs were so tender. The chicken kelaguen was ok. It was my first time trying it, and I think the rest of the dishes impressed me more. We got red rice and if you get that too ask for Finade sauce and pour that over the red rice. I went for the side salad instead of the mashed potatoes, and the dressing for the salad was great. Overall amazing food that I would highly recommend
