Omakase tableside was excellent. Music was a little loud, but ambiance was fun with murals and good people watching. A table in the back was a must to avid the bar, front scene. The bar was full and looked lively. Sake flight is a must!

We had a few different servers throughout our dinner. All were knowledgeable and friendly.

A bit expensive but tasty fish!

We did the omakase here and it was amazing, definitely worth the price! Nick was serving us and was super knowledgeable and friendly – he answered our questions and chatted with us throughout the dinner, and it was just super fun to listen to his descriptions of how each course was prepared and watch it happen in front of you. The fish was so fresh and delicious. And it was such a great variety of things to try. I also really liked the atmosphere, it’s not very big but feels cozy and it doesn’t feel like you need to be dressed up as fancy as possible even though you’re definitely getting a high-end experience. It’s very comfortable. Definitely a special place that I want to go back to!

Jinsei Motto is hands down the best Japanese restaurant in Chicago! The fish is incredibly fresh, and every dish has such thoughtful and well-balanced seasonings and toppings. I absolutely love the omakase experience here — it’s always a treat and offers amazing value, especially if you come for the lunch omakase. The quality of the fish is top-notch, and the ambience makes the experience even more enjoyable. The chefs are super friendly, making each visit feel personal and memorable. Highly recommend for anyone craving high-quality Japanese cuisine in the city!

Dinner omakase was amazing with Chef Jamel and Nick!

Intimate 6 seats. 19 courses. 2h experience. Good music and nice ambiance.

Mackerel was a serious surprise; Aji was so delicious that it changed my opinion on mackerel altogether.

Back third of the menu was tuna which was stellar as it is at most omakase experiences. Great garnish pairings to mediate fat but preserve flavor and texture.

Specialize in dry aged fish. Combinations were unique. Flavors were very balanced. Recommend and will return!

I’m gonna start off by saying I would’ve given this restaurant 5 stars except for one horrible piece of sushi that was on the Omakase.

Specifically, it was their scallop it was described as having Uni underneath it.

The scallop was I think maybe piece number 10 out of 14 – before that bite everything was really good. The BamBam lions, mane, the crab poppers, the fresh crab California roll. And also each of the Omakase pieces were great until the scallop !

But as soon as both of us ate that scallop piece we wanted to gag I think maybe the Uni had gone bad something – it tasted like rancid, bad fish like that smell underneath a dirty beach pier of like old fish. And I think most people eating it would just chalk this up to that’s how it’s supposed to taste but there’s no way! We have both had uni plenty before. That ruined the entire experience for me. We talked about it for the rest of the night.

if we had not had that one piece, this would’ve easily been a full five star experience and I would’ve gone back to them for sure

Always an amazing experience whenever we visit Jinsei Motto. Not much I can say that the pictures don’t express fully for me.

I would like to note the differences in menus shown side by side in the first picture. A lot of omakase experiences simply double you up on another roll in lieu of * *. Jinsei Motto takes things a huge step further and specifically tailors a replacement course. It is far from lacking in flavor and presentation. We will definitely be returning to see the menu changes.

It was my first and last experience. I have had More delicious sushi’s in other places. We ordered two rolls and a combination grill.
The size of the food was much smaller in compare to the price.
I got a California King for $21? Nothing really special.
The miso soup was delicious. The grill combination was okay and normal. The portion size was smaller than expected.

From Dallas and Visiting a friend. we both have an infinite, insatiable appetite for sushi. Luckily we were able to snag a reservation for Friday night and yall, it was delicious. Jamel, the sushi chef was amazing with his knife skills and was able to make dinner so fun with his charm and banter. 19 courses + 2 large format sake + cocktails = 10/10 recommend!

Will definitely be back!!

Truly amazing experience. A fabulous modern omakase that creates a fun interactive experience that gives the impression it blends the old and the new together for a contemporary audience. The dinner omakase was 19 courses of artistry and perfection. Every detail was considered and I think that this would be perfect for a special occasions or treating yourself to a nice night out. They also have a lunch omakase that is more budget friendly. On top of that, wonderful sake options that pair well with the courses and a creative and fun space that creates a special ambiance.

Chef Patrick Buaban has such a beautiful palate and vision using traditional techniques as well as a fantastic team that together created a powerhouse menu that will just blow your mind. Something truly unique about Jinsei Motto is the heavy use of dry aged fish in the courses. They have the dry ager proudly displayed when you enter the space and for good reason, the way it elevated the flavors was out of this world. We had Jemel, putting our courses together and he was incredibly knowledgeable. His passion for what he was doing truly exuded from every single course and explanation.

Lastly, a fantastic touch, the lighting is especially designed to display each course after it is assembled in front of you. It makes for amazing photos. I think the saying goes you eat with your eyes first and it really does just elevate the entire experience.

In summary, I would highly recommend Jinsei Motto and would 100% recommend it. I think also if you have never done an omikase it is an amazing first experience. I got to enjoy incredible well crafted and thoughtful food as well as have a really fun time. The team there was very much part of that. Do yourself a favor and check it out!
