We had a few different servers throughout our dinner. All were knowledgeable and friendly.
A bit expensive but tasty fish!
Intimate 6 seats. 19 courses. 2h experience. Good music and nice ambiance.
Mackerel was a serious surprise; Aji was so delicious that it changed my opinion on mackerel altogether.
Back third of the menu was tuna which was stellar as it is at most omakase experiences. Great garnish pairings to mediate fat but preserve flavor and texture.
Specialize in dry aged fish. Combinations were unique. Flavors were very balanced. Recommend and will return!
Specifically, it was their scallop it was described as having Uni underneath it.
The scallop was I think maybe piece number 10 out of 14 – before that bite everything was really good. The BamBam lions, mane, the crab poppers, the fresh crab California roll. And also each of the Omakase pieces were great until the scallop !
But as soon as both of us ate that scallop piece we wanted to gag I think maybe the Uni had gone bad something – it tasted like rancid, bad fish like that smell underneath a dirty beach pier of like old fish. And I think most people eating it would just chalk this up to that’s how it’s supposed to taste but there’s no way! We have both had uni plenty before. That ruined the entire experience for me. We talked about it for the rest of the night.
if we had not had that one piece, this would’ve easily been a full five star experience and I would’ve gone back to them for sure
I would like to note the differences in menus shown side by side in the first picture. A lot of omakase experiences simply double you up on another roll in lieu of * *. Jinsei Motto takes things a huge step further and specifically tailors a replacement course. It is far from lacking in flavor and presentation. We will definitely be returning to see the menu changes.
The size of the food was much smaller in compare to the price.
I got a California King for $21? Nothing really special.
The miso soup was delicious. The grill combination was okay and normal. The portion size was smaller than expected.
Will definitely be back!!
Chef Patrick Buaban has such a beautiful palate and vision using traditional techniques as well as a fantastic team that together created a powerhouse menu that will just blow your mind. Something truly unique about Jinsei Motto is the heavy use of dry aged fish in the courses. They have the dry ager proudly displayed when you enter the space and for good reason, the way it elevated the flavors was out of this world. We had Jemel, putting our courses together and he was incredibly knowledgeable. His passion for what he was doing truly exuded from every single course and explanation.
Lastly, a fantastic touch, the lighting is especially designed to display each course after it is assembled in front of you. It makes for amazing photos. I think the saying goes you eat with your eyes first and it really does just elevate the entire experience.
In summary, I would highly recommend Jinsei Motto and would 100% recommend it. I think also if you have never done an omikase it is an amazing first experience. I got to enjoy incredible well crafted and thoughtful food as well as have a really fun time. The team there was very much part of that. Do yourself a favor and check it out!
