This is a great spot for the classic diner experience. You are literally walking into something from like 1979. The food is usually excellent but not always, never inedible, just depends on who’s in the kitchen. The waiters and waitresses are totally nice and you might even swear you heard someone say “kiss my grits” in the back ground. They have a great classic diner counter as well, for the single folk to grab a quick lunch. The chicken fried steak is prepared in classic style and is very tasty. Also can’t forget to mention… This is the place to get breakfast in the South Austin area. There are a couple of downsides the biscuits are kind of dry – so I recommend the texas toast. And the place is currently a little difficult to access due to never-ending road construction at the Oak Hill “Y” intersection, so pack your patience trying to get to the parking lot. I promise it will be worth the effort.

This Jim’s has a classic interior design that feels cozy and retro. We came here late one night an hour or two before close and felt like we were in a detective movie.
We ordered the biscuits and gravy, eggs, hashbrowns, and a pancake. Along with the fried shrimp and a strawberry pie slice for desert. The food was good, but our favorite was definitely the strawberry cake.

Everything was perfect from the service to the food. I lived in San Antonio for 60 years where there were so many Jim’s. To find one in Austin was so awesome. Felt like home.

Late-Night Gold at the Bar. 5 Stars for Jim’s
You know a place is solid when you roll up at 9:30pm and not only are they still serving, they’re actually happy to see you. That’s exactly what happened at Jim’s Restaurant, where we ended up grabbing a couple seats at the bar and had one of the best meals of the week.
Kevin, our server, deserves his own plaque on the wall. Friendly, relaxed, and clearly a night-shift MVP. The kind of guy who checks in just the right amount and makes you feel like the barstools were saved just for you.
We ordered the chicken fried steak, and let’s just say: if comfort food were an Olympic sport, Jim’s would be bringing home the gold. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, smothered in that dreamy gravy that makes you question your loyalty to any other dinner option.
And because we like to live deliciously, we took home a full stack of pancakes (pro tip: they reheat like a dream) and a slice of coconut cream pie. Light, rich, and not too sweet — like a Hallmark movie but edible.
Jim’s isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel — they just actually know how to make it roll. Great service, great food, and a vibe that makes you want to come back before you’ve even left. Michelin stars? Nah. Jim’s has Texas charm which is better in every way.

On 25 September the PiHead group visited Jim’s. This group visits restaurants throughout Central Texas searching for perfection in their pie menu. Today, at Jim’s, they came close. They claim their Pies are made in house and we believe them. Our sampling of the Apple and Coconut Cream Pies proved to be excellent in flavor and texture. We wholeheartedly recommend you order a slice alone or after your meal. We would be wrong not to mention the excellent food and prices. The service was excellent, fast and friendly. We’re putting this Jim’s Restaurant in the Top Group of Restaurants you should visit.

Best diner around! We’ve not had a bad meal here. Everything that we’ve tried has been delicious from breakfast to burgers to pork chops. Jim’s is a favorite of our family and any friends that we take or suggest to go here. Highly recommend Jim’s!

Hands down the best steak and eggs in Austin for us carnivores.
This is also probably one of the few places in Austin that still has that American retro vibe to it without feeling like a rundown place both in quality and service. Please never go away.

Huevos rancheros were fine. Refried beans were good. Hashbrowns undersalted and bland. Eggs are eggs. Chicken salad was pretty basic.
The taco soup was actually quite delicious and probably the thing I would return there for.

This place has what we lost as a society. A place with free parking, a short wait time, and affordable dining. This is what comfort dining used to and SHOULD be. The options are no frills but satisfying. This is THEE PLACE you go to for your after Church fix. Whether it be a late breakfast, or good ol’ Cruisin’ Cuisine Americana served on a warm platter; Jim’s got you covered.
