This place was recommended by some friends. They always order the beef stroganoff and mentioned the food was superb. My bf and my friend ordered the beef stroganoff…it was just okay. I ordered the veal and risotto. The veal was pretty good, the risotto was undercooked and bland. I loved the basket of breads, that was pretty good but I wouldn’t come back for a basket of breads.
My overall opinion: overrated

Spectacular little place with a great atmosphere. We went on a Friday night at 7 and we’re really glad to have reservations because it was packed but we were seated right at the reservation time. The service was top notch and that’s not easy to find anymore. The whole meal was great from start to finish. Free breads to start and the cinnamon bread is bomb… So was the spinach artichoke dip appetizer. I had the lasagna and she had the mushroom ravioli and we both really enjoyed the meals. I’ve heard about this place for years and upset I hadn’t been sooner. I’ll definitely be back!

Not a first time visitor here. They’re very consistent across the board, but if “it’s not broke, then why fix it?”, right? We had reservations so we got seated right away. We chose outside on the front patio, but won’t do that again for a couple of reasons: 1) With all of the traffic (foot and car) it was loud and distracting for my taste. 2) The front window to the establishment has a reflective film coating to keep the west-facing sun from frying the patrons inside. I can vouch that it works because the heat coming off of the glass was overwhelming.
Service was average for a restaurant of this scale and caliber. Everyone was very nice and seemed to enjoy their work. I received the wrong beer and they tried to make it right but I just went with it. The table was sticky all the way around the perimeter of the table top which I’m guessing was from sticky forearms leaning on it (see pic). Everything else was clean including glasses and utensils which is rare anymore. We got burgers and they were on point! Cooked to perfection with quality ingredients to include the bun. The fries (both varieties) were done well. My recommendation is for them to add some small patio speakers to add some ambience and a seasonal oscillating fan to mitigate the heat reflection. We will go back because it is good service and great food. Jim’s is a must-try in the Heights. Its pricier but worth it.

Never got around to writing a long overdue review of this great option in the Heights. They have a really varied menu, from sandwiches to steaks. Everything I have had has been good. Last time was the rib and roasted chicken combo – it was fantastic and plenty for another dinner. The ribs are the “melt in your mouth with lots of sauce” kind, and the chicken was amazing. The service was really good. Yes, it can be loud. I was glad we had always made reservations for dinner, as it can be busy. Only glitch: no decaf coffee. And they still haven’t fixed the exhaust so you do leave with that food smell on your clothes. But worth it!

Terribly overpriced. My wife and I both ordered the ribeye and they were both cooked very poorly. My wife sent hers back but I chewed through it. 15$ up charge for a Caesar salad (no mention of this when I asked for Caesar dressing). Party of 8 and it took us over 3 hours from start to finish. The service was terribly slow. Beautiful place but a truly terrible experience. Much better options and more affordable options in Peoria.

Mashed potatoes were just above room temperature, green beans almost hot. New York strip steak had 2 bone slivers. All food had a really good taste though.

Small & quaint family owned bistro. Great selections of entrees, wine, beer & cocktails. Wife & I dined there this evening. I had the small filet, plus beef & bleu option for $3 (best filet I have had locally), plus Cesar starter & hand cut fries. Wife had the veal ravioli, plus a salad. Food & service was excellent! Reservations are a must, especially on weekends. Costs are in line for what you get, atmosphere is quaint & vibrant. This is a go to for not only special occasions, but for weekly date night, or larger family gatherings. It’s a local gem in Central Illinois.

We had a table of four. We’re sat right away requested table by window. Drinks were great appetizer outstanding, entrees were 4 different and all were awesome. Dessert was delicious as well.
Waitress was professional and very helpful. We all were thoroughly impressed. Will be back.
(No we are not relatives or friends of any employee). Thanks Jims Bistro for a wonderful night. D Groene
