I grew up just west of Cleveland, in Lorain, Ohio — a place where Italian delis weren’t just shops, they were rituals. As a boy, I’d tag along with my dad to pick up sandwiches for the family, practically vibrating with excitement before we even parked the car. I don’t remember whether we called them hoagies, grinders, or just “the Italian,” but I do remember this: the moment we opened the deli door, the smell — meat, warm bread, vinegar, olives — hit with such force it might as well have been a religious experience.
I’d stand glued to the cold glass of the deli case as they stacked the rolls of meat loose for the slicer. My dad insisted it made the sandwich taste better. Maybe it did — or maybe it was the tomatoes, onions, shredded lettuce drenched in oil and vinegar. Whatever the reason, those sandwiches set the gold standard in my young mind. For decades, no deli came close. I searched everywhere I lived but always walked away a little disappointed.
Then, sometime in my early sixties, I wandered into a Jersey Mike’s.
There it was.
The smell.
The feel.
The memory — brought back to life in a modern shop with fresh bread, that unmistakable vinegar bite, and meat sliced right in front of you just like the old days.
So when I heard Jersey Mike’s was coming to Boerne, I was thrilled. And they’ve delivered. Consistently. Every time.
For me, this isn’t fast food — it’s nostalgia wrapped in butcher paper. It’s the closest I’ve come in adulthood to those Ohio deli sandwiches I grew up on, and it’s become a weekly tradition. Most Fridays you’ll find me there, sharing a table with another Jersey-Mike’s loyalist, talking life for a couple of hours while savoring every bite.
Boerne has plenty of good places to eat.
But Jersey Mike’s?

I ordered from here on DoorDash very often probably every other week usually I get a giant, which is their most famous sandwich. Their Philly cheesesteak. I always order extra cheese wheat bun numerous occasions today I decided to order a regular size Philly cheesesteak with extra cheese. I didn’t even get cheese on it. You know how much I pay for these sandwiches if I get a giant I pay almost $24 for a sandwich for a half a sandwich. It’s almost like 14 if this is the kind of service that I’m gonna get from them and they can’t be consistent I will never order another sandwich from them again. Kim Kahlig.

One of our go to options for a solid lunch when the kiddos are home from school or on the weekend. My daughter loves the Mike’s sauce and says they have a good variety of drinks and chips. When we order online, they always have our order ready to go on time. Staff is friendly and food is always great. Glad to have them as an option in Boerne.

They have different option names in the menu, the only bad thing that was disappointing was no spinach on the sides, had some good crispy bacon and delicious avocado but it’s lacking a few choices, aside from that, it’s the second time I’ve eaten there and probably will go again, there tea is pretty tasty!

I get Jersey Mikes at least 3/4 times a week. Giant sweet tea with all the ice I can fit in the cup & I always get the big Kahuna or Chipotle sub. Always fantastic, I either order through the app or door dash & I sure hope it sticks around.
