The wife and I are on are usual weekend trip of antique stores , flea markets and thrift sto res. Feeling a bit hungry , we drive past a place called Jersey Joe’s. An Old School hoagie shop. Turned around and stopped for a bit. We shared a cheese steak with Cooper Sharp Cheddar and long hot peppers. The place is a bit empty. No decor on the wall or even music playing. Once the food was ready we ventured back to the car. There was no eating allowed inside. Opened this huge sandwich and damn. This was a filled cheese steak sandwich. Just the right amount of cheese and the long hots had the perfect flavor. The rib eye was perfect. Very juicy and lots of flavor. I would have taken a picture but I ate it to fast. Definitely stop in and check them out. Worth the trip.

Travel to go: I don’t visit this place often and when I do I order to-go. They have a larger selection of hoagies…pick whatever and you’ll be pleased. There is also shopping availabe for convient grocery items like cento products, goya, specialty items (cheeses, deli meats). THIS TIME I order the sub special of the day, which was an italian hoagies with oil and vinegar. I also got the gobbler & the old world. Traveled from the south I’ll see you again.

After driving from NC to NJ to have my favorite hoagie from Northfield Deli, we discovered the heartbreaking reality that they were out of business. This left us with a predicament- go back home or find a new favorite dive. Of course we made the obvious choice! We visited White House Subs due to their famous past- huge let down! Back to the drawing board, I read lots of reviews & decided to drive an hour to give Jersey Joe’s a try. Absolutely worth every mile traveled! For starters, the owner, Joe, cut up with me from the get go. From there he made both me & my husband feel like family- sharing about his, genuinely interested in our story & where we were from. We talked, laughed, & cut up the entire time our food was being prepared. However, during that time several other customers came in & I noted how he knew each of them by name- it reminded me of the old tv show Cheers where they yelled “Norm!” That speaks volumes about Joe & the quality of the food, as clearly they were all regulars. I ordered the Italian & my husband had the Philly Cheese. Let’s just say that Joe was extremely generous with more than just the quantity of food. We were overwhelmed & humbled by his kindness. The place was very clean & well kept & there are plenty of signs that lets you know in advance that it’s cash only, which just isn’t a big deal people. Now, I would note that there’s no inside seating. However, there is a nice park only two minutes away. We went there & enjoyed our meal. The portions you get are insane. See the pics from the side that shows the depth of meat. The veggies were fresh, bread was fresh, & meat in abundance. From meeting Joe to thoroughly enjoying the food, needless to say I’ve found my new favorite NJ deli!

First off, the sandwiches are elite. The cheesesteak is, of course, phenomenal, but have you tried the cutlet? The best I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot. Tender, moist, incredibly seasoned. 11/10, would eat every day.
The owner is such a kind soul, if you have an issue here it’s all you because this place, from food to service and hospitality, this is a full send and I’d eat it every day.

Update: 2024.
I have been back several times since my first review. For your $$ hands down this is the place to go! For your taste buds- this place has the best cheesesteak in the area! I have had several cheesesteaks around this place and each one I compare to Jersey Joe’s – so far not one even close.
If you haven’t tried them, please do so! This is a small business to support!
Wow! The portions were huge! Great value for the price! Will definitely come back! Highly recommend.
Update: 3/1/23. They moved! Now on the white horse pike! Still have the best Cheesesteaks and Fries! Today we are trying their home made onion rings!
Photos from their new location!
Call ahead! When they are out of bread they are closed!

Truly a special place. I used to work nearby and I would have a sandwich from Jersey Joe’s 4 or 5 days a week. About 5 years ago I moved far away (and developed a severe gluten allergy) but I still think about and miss Jersey Joe’s almost every day. These hoagies, cheese steaks, and cutlet sandwiches are unrivaled in my lifetime in New York City, Philadelphia, and all over New Jersey.

These guys are the real deal. Where else can you get 16oz shaved rib eye in their cheesesteak in South Jersey?! If you are in South Jersey / Berlin – no reason to drive to Philly to get a good cheesesteak or hoagie; go to Jersey Joe’s and leave a tip for Jay (the guy making the steaks)

After working up an appetite at the flea market, I decided to give Jersey Joe a try and let me me say that this has to be 1 of if not the FRESHEST sandwiches ever! I love these “no frills” style places because money isn’t wasted on ambiance it’s spent on QUALITY ingredients, and it shows in the taste. This Italian hoagie is hard to put down and was well worth the stop.
