I was extremely disappointed with this meal. So to reiterate my experienced I found feathers still on the jerk chicken which is absolutely unacceptable. Every piece of cut up meat barely had chicken. You could literally taste the old oil in the fried plantains and fried festival. The rice&pease was very dry and had no flavor (you could tell they didn’t add a scotch bonnet and thyme). The cabbage had no flavor. The aroma in the air is what brought my attention but it was far what I expected physically tasting it.
It’s also very important to clearly display your prices … it’s frustrating to wait in line for 50 minutes only to mysteriously find out how much it costs.
Overall it was a disgusting and disappointing experience. It was so unappetizing that I ended up throwing the full plate away and buying food from another vendor.
My experience was disappointing because everything I asked for on my visit, either they didn’t have or would have taken 45 minutes to be ready. I was told it was best to call in advance to make sure they have what I’m wanting and to give time for any items that needed to be prepared. Needless to say, I had my mouth fixed on some good eating that day but left with a veggie patty.
Tried the seamoss and soursop juice today. Will definitely try again.
I also want to highlight the outstanding customer service. The owner was incredibly patient and welcoming, which made the entire experience even better. I walked in extremely hungry and left completely satisfied.
If you’re looking for delicious, well-prepared Jamaican food paired with great hospitality, this spot is definitely worth a visit!
I ordered the jerk chicken, small curry (large), and a side of goat, also a beef patty and drink that came out to $57 and some change, which was already hefty, but it’s family-owned, so I didn’t mind.
They brought out the food a few minutes later and said they ran out of curry, so they would charge him $15 instead of $20. Still, no worries; things happen. And everything smelled good, so we left.
I got home about 40 minutes away and ate my beef patty on the way. She did warn me they were cold, but besides that, the meat lacked flavor, and the bottom was burnt.
I get home to eat, and my husband says his food lacked flavor and substance, and so did mine. I’ve never had cabbage with no other veggies. The rice was so flavor less and lacked love. The jerk flavor was okay but dry and full of bones, so I barely got any meat, and when I did, it was dry. Mind you, they had only been open 30 minutes from the time we arrived. Then I get to the goat. I take a bite of the meat, and it’s sooo gamey I couldn’t chew anymore nor swallow, and the side of goat was $15, like, wow.
I hate wasting food, so if you’re anything like me, don’t even bother.
To make matters worse, I added a watermelon and ginger juice, which sounded refreshing, but it was honestly awful. The flavors didn’t blend well at all and it tasted like watered down syrup with a strong, artificial aftertaste. I couldn’t finish it.
I’m writing this review because I genuinely believe vendors should take pride in the quality and presentation of their food, especially when charging premium prices. Festival goers like myself are excited to support local businesses, but we also expect value, flavor, and care in what’s being served. Sadly, this meal missed the mark in every way. I left feeling disappointed, underwhelmed, and a bit frustrated. I threw the entire platter in the trash.
To the vendor: I truly hope you take this feedback into consideration. People are willing to pay for great food, but you’ve got to make it worth it. Quality matters. Do better.
