Another perfect night at Jeff Ruby’s. Of course their filet is perfect, I guess this is one of the top notch restaurant in Louisville, so everyone knows it’s good. But I’d like to mention their appetizers with Ootoro and Kanpachi(raw fish/sashimi).
Ootoro seems little pricey but the quality is perfect, melt in your mouth. Kanpachi dish is NOBU inspired I assume but still one of my favorite, this one might be better than NOBU because of their quality of fish. If you are ok with raw fish, I recommend those. Cheaper than getting an airplane ticket to Japan. 😉

Jeff Ruby’s is always an enjoyable dinner. This was not my first visit and won’t be the last. The bread is delicious as always. The steak was good. Brussel sprouts were really delicious! I was disappointed in the asparagus, it needed a little more flavor. The cupcake was good, but reminded me of the gourmet bakery cupcakes at Kroger.

We had gone to their competition the night before and while the atmosphere may be better there, the food is miles above better here. I got the same cut, barrel cut filet, so I can give a true comparison. The lobster Mac and cheese was amazing but the star of the show was actually the butter pie. My wife said it was one of the best things that we’ve eaten since we been in town.

Another great stop at Ruby’s. Bone in ribeye very good, $99 is a little rough though. A variety of other samplings including a firecracker sushi roll, lobster Mac n cheese to name a few.
Only down side is the bread is amazing but the crust will laceration the roof of your mouth, and there was some dude carrying a dog around.
Live piano was cool but we didn’t stay long enough for the house singer, which is always a treat.

Edit: I took my dad back to Jeff Ruby’s 10/26/25 and like mentioned below we were so excited to try TWO of the waygu flights containing Australian, Japanese and American Waygu. I must admit it was an underwhelming experience. I got mine Med Rare+ and he got his Med Well. His had soooo much inedible connective tissue/gristle that a lot of his Japanese and some of his Australian could not be eaten (attached picture below) I thought this to be rare with Waygu however, the manager told us that a lot of their pieces currently looked like that and the chef choose the best ones. I packaged up a lot of mine and ran into similar issue at home. The manager was probably the highlight of the dinner. She did offer to bring him out another Japanese portion but he mentioned that even that wasn’t as good as previous times we had been. I would agree, we have both tried the Australian and Japanese on prior visits, prepared the same way and tonight’s quality simply wasn’t the same. Maybe the batch of Waygu they currently have isn’t that great of quality. Overall with 4 cocktails and 2 Waygu flights after tip over bill was very expensive – which I have no issue paying as long as the quality meets the expectation. But unfortunately this past Sunday we were let down. May be hesitate to try the flight again and I really wanted to be blown away.
I only come to Jeff Ruby’s for one thing Waygu! My dad and I have now both tried the Japanese A5 and Australian and both cuts are phenomenal. I will say I was absolutely blown away by the Japanese. I think next time we will try the Waygu board. The service is always top tier and the cocktails are always amazing, along with the sides. Great experience every time! Will be back very soon

of it. I was underdressed but no one batted an eye. We ate well and enjoyed everything from the shrimp cocktail, meatballs, and sushi starters. The waiter recommended splitting the salad and what a good call. We had steak for dinner, mine was covered in crab meat. Steaks were cooked well and tasted great. Dessert was equally special with butter cake, and a strawberry cookie skillet that did not stand a chance. Bread and butter were awesome. Cocktails were great

We went for my first time a couple nights ago and enjoyed it so much that we came back a 2nd time. If you have the fortune of working with Jonathan as your server, you’re in for a great night. The first evening Charlie helped and she was absolutely wonderful. The 2nd time we have the privilege of also being tended to by Ben – also fantastic. The food is excellent and the portions are generous. We split a variety of food – appetizers, sides, entrees, drinks – and Jonathan was right there to recommend items each step of the way. The steaks were perfect and I loved the sea bass. The wine and cocktail options were great and the tuna flight is delicious. I mentioned to the MOD Alexis how wonderful our experience was and she was so happy to hear the positive feedback. Alexis had stopped by at different points both nights to make sure everything was going well. She’s excellent at her job & very responsive and attentive. If you’re just in for drinks, a quick bite, or a full 3-course meal, this is a great stop.
