We finally visited here. The ladies working realized it was our first time and quickly explained the menu and how they work. You order and pay first, here, and then they seat you and bring your food. I’m not a big BBQ fan, which is why we hadn’t been sooner. Meats were well cooked. The sides were my favorite, with macaroni and sweet potato crunch. Our waitress, Anita, was very attentive and helpful. Everything came out correctly and quickly, despite how busy they were on a Friday evening.

First time here, the ordering process was interesting but quick, and the service was great. Our food came out super fast, and the food was very tasty. You should definitely eat here!

We searched the area for the best rated BBQ and JD’s smokehouse is what we found. We found the place to be a nice and local restaurant (early what we wanted to since we don’t like the typical big chains when we travel). The layout was spacious. You order at the counter and then they seat you. The young ladies were patient with us since it took us a while to decide. We went with the traditional dishes. The food came out quickly and the young lady who was waiting our area was always checking our drinks. Honestly the food was so so and we weren’t too impressed. I’m glad we shared our meal and didn’t go all out. Overall we felt it was so so. I did get a souvenir t-shirt. Wish I had a better review to post. Overall it’s an okay spot and hope it was just an isolated incident.

Absolutely superb. I had the brisket sandwich and it was amazing. For my side I highly recommend the green bean casserole. This isn’t your typical green bean casserole either. I wish I had ordered some to go. It’s that good. The service is top notch as well. The staff are super focused on making sure you’re waited on as quickly as possible and once seated, they are very attentive. I can’t wait to revisit soon.

I love this place. Their sides are the best I’ve ever had of particular sides. For example, I like okra a little bit. They have the best fried okra I’ve ever had, ever. The french fries are SO good.
I do have a big issue with JD’s and every other BBQ place in the area, THEY DON’T SMOKE THE MEAT! They have a big really nice smoker, but there’s not even a drop of smoke flavor in the whole place.
Why have all BBQ joints stopped? Smoke is so dang good, it doesn’t make sense not to use smoke!

Restaurant Review: JD’s Smokehouse 2731 Morganton Blvd SW, Lenoir, NC 28645
If you’re a barbecue lover, JD’s Smokehouse in Lenoir, NC, is an absolute must-visit. After a long drive of an hour and fifteen minutes from Asheville, NC, we were on the hunt for some authentic BBQ, and we were thrilled to discover that our journey led us to a true gem.
Upon entering JD’s, the welcoming atmosphere immediately enveloped us. It was a Saturday afternoon, buzzing with families and friends celebrating post-youth sports games. The decor was rustic yet inviting, perfectly complementing the smokehouse vibe. The tantalizing smell of smoked meats hit us as soon as we walked in—it’s exactly what you want to experience at a smokehouse.
The service was impressively fast, which is always a bonus when you’re hungry. We were greeted promptly, and our orders were taken with a friendly smile. It didn’t take long before our plates arrived, and let me tell you, they exceeded all expectations.
Now, let’s talk about the food. We ordered the brisket, pulled pork, and ribs, and each dish was made to perfection. The brisket had a beautiful smoke ring, indicating the care and skill that went into its preparation. Each slice was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. The pulled pork was equally impressive, with a rich, smoky taste that left us wanting more. And the ribs? They were fall-off-the-bone tender, with a glaze that was both savory and slightly sweet, enhancing the smoky goodness.
JD’s doesn’t just serve BBQ; they deliver an experience that hits all the right notes. The flavors were spot on, capturing that quintessential North Carolina BBQ essence that can sometimes be elusive. For anyone who appreciates good BBQ, JD’s Smokehouse is a home run.
After experiencing such outstanding food and service, I can confidently say that this place is worth the drive from any distance. If you find yourself in Lenoir, or even if you’re just passing through, make sure to stop by JD’s Smokehouse. It’s one of the best BBQ spots I’ve encountered in North Carolina, and I can’t wait to return for another amazing meal.

I’ve eaten a lot of great pork BBQ and I’d give their’s a 7 on a 10 scale. It was flavorful but a tad dry. If took a lot of vinegar sauce to moisten it up. The sides were excellent. I had the slaw and potato salad. I’d go back again, but I’d try the ribs. Based on the local clientele, ribs seemed to be the go to choice. Plenty of parking. The server was very attentive and kept the tea cup full. She brought me a bottle of their special hot sauce out from the back. It was just OK. The price of the pork plate was $16 with two sides and a small roll.

Felt very welcome. Food was excellent, maybe too many choices. Meat comes unsauced which is excellent. Brisket and okra were delicious. Waitstaff phenomenal.

This was my first time here. I was a little confused at the menu on the wall, but I figured it out finally. I had a half a rack of ribs and I got to tell you, I am a huge rib snob… And these were delicious. They’re Carolina mustard sauce was so fabulous I bought some to take home. The girls taking us to our table and waiting on us were super nice and friendly and did a great job. Hats off to this place. You’re doing it right.
