Jay’s Beef never disappoints! Their Italian beef is absolutely delicious — I went with sweet peppers and it was prepared perfectly. The sandwich was dipped just right, not overly soaked but definitely not dry, exactly how a beef should be. The flavors were spot on and the bread held up beautifully.

The fries were just as impressive — perfectly salted, crisp, and golden, the ideal side to a great beef. Every bite reminded me why Jay’s is a go-to spot. Consistent quality, amazing taste, and always satisfying. Highly recommend!

I remember coming here as a kid and as an adult. We had to Come back and try the beef. The beef was good but I wish they had jardinair and not Jalapeno’s. Get the beef baptized, fries snd a tamales

Solid Italian Beef. Fries were piping hot fresh and very delicious. Service was top tier. The workers were very professional & very kind. To be 100% honest, i prefer some other locations that have a bit more flavor to their beef, but still have a lot of respect for this Jays location. The neighborhood support for this spot is legendary. Bathrooms were a bit run down. Lock didn’t work in the men’s bathroom stall.

Food is mid. Nothing special. Fried items are fried in old oil. Sandwich Italian beef is ok but rude workers. The guy just walks off didn’t confirm my order and made it wrong. I also ended up getting food poisoning from this wretched place. I will never come here again.

I grew up visiting the location that was in Mt Prospect/Des Plaines and was sad when it closed. Recently I heard the Harwood Heights location is still open. My brother, sister, nephew, and I went for a nostalgic experience. It was awesome to see Frank, the owner, still active behind the counter taking orders and making beef sandwhichs. Truely a great experience and Yes, after 30 years the taste is still the best in all Chicago.

The hot giardinera is lame, fresh jalapenos and celery, they really need to up their game in this area. Need to switch to serranos and add oil. Beef can be stringy and tough but sometimes is tender, too inconsistent. Jus and beef flavor can be a bit lacking. You want a giant order of average, frozen frech fries, they got you covered. Grew up in the area, they’ve always been middle of the road when it comes to Italian beef. If you’re from out of town and want to try an Italian beef sandwich, go to Johnnie’s, Bob-O’s or Al’s. Al’s has gotten really pricy though.

Jay’s Beef is the best in the area, and never disappoints. Italian beef and sausage were my favorite . Highly recommend this place for anyone who loves Chicago style sandwiches and someone who is rush in hunger. Staffs were super friendly and i honestly felt so welcomed here. Definitely will be back to Jay’s !

Came here for the first time and got just an Italian beef, dipped, with hot peppers. I wanted to see how it compares to the other Italian beef joints I’ve had. My experience was great. The beef was delicious. It’s not my #1, but it does land in my top 5. The price seemed a bit high, but nothing crazy. The flavor was delicious, and I really liked the homemade giardiniera that they seemed to use. I would highly recommend this place if you’re in the area.

Extremely thin deli slicer sliced beef. (Their automatic slicer is cool as hell)
Relatively fast service and friendly.
Beef tears immediately. However, it’s layered like they took a neat stack of shaved beef and dipped it, and put it on the sandwich without separating most of it. To me, it feels like I’m biting into a deli sandwich instead of an italian beef in some spots.
The roll gives a weird off note right as the first taste, then followed by the beef.
0 spice heat from the juice.
Far too little seasoning to meat ratio personally.
The smell upon entering the restaurant was amazing, and I’m sure some of the other items I saw people order are great.
But without giardanra to cover the lack of seasoning/spice, its not on terms with Michael’s in Oak Park or Frannies in Schiller Park, but better than a Portillo’s or Buona Beef.
That was fine, but not worth going out of the way myself personally.
3.5/5
