We used to go to Jay’s regularly and cater them for lunch for the guys. The interior seems to be the same as it was 20 years ago, and the menu is the same as well, I think.
Service was good, attentive counter guy etc, the restaurant was pretty clean considering it was busy.
The food was not so much. The flimsy Styrofoam 9 inch plate was covered completely, but impossible to eat without spilling. I ordered the 2 meat plate, with fries and potato salad. They were fine, fries were cold, but not inedible. The chicken was just a drum and wing covered in some kind of brown gravy, but the beef was terrible. It was a slop of mostly sauce and little bits of meat. More like something that you’d put on potatoes. Not much flavor and very salty. I think it was supposed to be chopped beef, but it was so runny that it was more like a loose chili.
So $22 for a mediocre plate without a drink?

I have been on a BBQ kick lately and was shopping with my mom in Baton Rouge on a Saturday and saw this place on Sherwood and always wanted to try it. Well we did….and I am shocked that people think this is BBQ. It was deli meat that you buy out of the store. It kinda smelt spoiled too. So I’m worried we’ll get sick later. The sausage is Manda from the store and the chicken breast was the size of the inside of my palm which is small for reference and so dry I had to use the little plastic fork. The coleslaw is minced to a cream and not that terrible and the potato salad is also creamed and over seasoned with black pepper. I have the service 4 stars because they are friendly and fast but all you hear the entire time is the microwave beeping because they reheat everything. Overall, 2 stars and only because the service is friendly. But deli meat posing as BBQ? Gross and weird.

This is my favorite place for a BBQ poboy! The BBQ is unique, and you can’t find it anywhere else! The BBQ ham poboy is my favorite, but other friends love the BBQ beef. I can’t get the poboy without the fried (always super hot and fresh) and the Cole slaw! Thanks, Jay’s, for being my favorite!!!❤️

Swooped in to check the joint out! We were not disappointed. Loved loved loved the sauce. The service was fantastic, our drinks were refilled before we knew it. They grill the buns! That’s just awesome. We will certainly be back.

I never have written a review for a restaurant until now. I’ve been pondering all evening what was served to me today that was suppose to be barbecue. It was by far the worse food I’ve ever experienced in my life. My friend and I were so traumatized and stunned that we didn’t know what to do after taking 1-2 bites of food and discovering this was not edible. So we just got up immediately, paid for the food and left. Hungry. Apparently there’s a palate for this place and I’m happy for them but I don’t understand. I will never forget the experience from today.

lived in BR my whole life and this is the 1st time going here. Had the Cheese burger, Curly fries and potato salad.
Burger 8.1/10- not bad would get again
Fries- 6/10 no salt but fresh and hot
potato salad- 9.8/10- texture love, flavor yes, mustard and pepper ! I will go here just to get this for my gumbo when i do not feel like making some LOL. over all not bad- would go back again and try something else.

The workers here are always very accommodating! Amazing service, contagious smiles and the food has been consistently delicious for the past 15+ years! Highly recommend the BBQ beef poboy with fried Okra for a side!

The food was bad. I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an off-day, but still, I would not go back to test that possibility. If they have a regular customer base that likes the way they prepare things, I hope the best for them, but I certainly would not call this barbecue. At all.

I am a truck driver I’ve ate bbq all over and have good and bad bbq but I’ve never had bbq I couldn’t eat . BBQ sauce was vinegary . Ribs was tough and low quality the Mac and cheese Terrible ! How you mess up green beans you can literally just salt and pepper ! The whole plate stank! And I’m not going to lie I was highly upset with you Jay..

Please! Eat here at your own risk. Today I got the bbq ribs plate and I am highly upset and grossed out. My ribs were dry on the inside like they have been sitting out. I couldn’t even finish it. If only I could upload a picture. The baked beans were nasty and dry. My Mac and cheese was spoiled ! To say I spend over $20 for this food I’m upset and sad to say my stomach will pay the price !
