Javi’s Taco Shack (formerly El Mejor Taqueria) first opened its doors in downtown Visalia in the Fall of 2008. It began with the promise of using the finest ingredients and the most exceptional service. Javi’s Taco Shack expanded in December of 2011 adding a bakery featuring freshly baked Mexican pastries, breakfast menu, coffee and fresh fruit, all in a comfortable environment and official becoming one of the most popular restaurants in downtown Visalia, famous for its weekly specials, express menu and late night dining experience. It is sought after by both locals and residents from surrounding cities. We are happy to announce our new location on South Mooney Blvd.

We ordered takeout from Javi’s the other night as we hadn’t gotten any in a while, and we were craving some BRCs. We ordered the quesabirria combo and two BRCs around 8pm. One of us didn’t finish the BRC so we wrapped it back up and went to eat it as leftovers the next day. When I went to reheat the burrito today, I cut it up so it would reheat right, and I found an earwig inside the burrito, over halfway down the burrito, smushed into the refried beans. That’s so incredibly disgusting, and there’s absolutely no way we would ever return here!

I am from out of state, from El Paso,TX border. I don’t visit Visalia often, but when I do Javi’s is ALWAYS the first stop on my list! Every time I have been here, I have had excellent customer service! The establishment is always clean and the staff is very friendly! You cannot stop by Javi’s and not take on the hungryman burrito! It is always a 10/10. The burrito is 3lbs if I am not mistaken, it has rice, beans, and your choice of meat. You also get the option of making it a wet burrito. This consists of green sauce with melted cheese.
I do not know when I’ll be back, but for sure this will be my first stop!

I’m very disappointed. Havyis taco shack. It use to be real good. It was one of the spots. I spread the word with all people. Lately they been getting. Sloppy. The hungry man. Is not the hungry man no more. If you are from visalia hungry man was from the takeria oround the oval park that’s were the hungry man was born. Jose and America. A married. Couple. Javier. I just want to express our extreme gratitude to Javi’s Tacos for catering to our family funeral event in Tulare. I was a little worried I saw them come in a little truck and thought how are they going to feed all of us? Next thing you knew, they had a canopy set up. A cute menu board, and the salsa bar had all the fixings, it was beautiful! We had all-you-can-eat tacos, burritos, quesadillas, delicious chips, and three different types of salsas PLUS a pico de gallo! It was delicious! My family was so hungry and by the end of it all, so very satisfied! The man Alex worked the grill and I apologize for not getting the other man’s name but he was taking everyone’s order very efficiently and he was kind and funny with everyone. Just what we needed that day. They worked so well and quick together! We had predicted about 75 people and it went very smoothly. We were just so pleased with these two guys. We couldn’t thank you guys enough. They supplied the plates, napkins, and forks. We didn’t have to worry about anything. It was just so perfect. After everything we got to keep the chips and salsas and any leftover foods (for our predicted 75) and said our goodbyes. We hope to use Javi’s Tacos catering services again. I highly recommend them!

Very good food, I recommend to everyone. second time was not as good! I got a week old Tamale that almost broke a tooth. and they refused to add salsa to takeout orders. what kind of Mexican restaurant dosen’t add a little salsa to every meal? I’ll try a different restaurant next time!!!

I’ll get straight to it on this place. It was not bad but it wasn’t good also it’s a place if u in a hurry an want something in your stomach type place. Well I like to start of the test of each restaurant with a wet burrito simple but delicious plate unfortunately this place didn’t deliver on such a simple plate. My beloved got the enchiladas combo as well a simple plate but the rice and beans didn’t have flavor the beans were bland tasted like water lol. Definitely need to work on there seasonings.

Javi’s Taco Shack never fails to impress! I work downtown and come every Tuesday with my coworkers for some asada tacos! You can’t go wrong with their asada! Cheap eats on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday! $1 tacos with your choice of meat.. doesn’t get any better!

Lots of choices on the menu, ordered sopes, torta. Nice staff, no outdoor seating so just take out. The enchiladas were cold, the flavors from the food were bland so make sure to ask for some salsa on the side.

Quaint little shop with the abuelita in the kitchen. This is my go to place for breakfast and lunch burritos. You get your money’s worth ordering a bean and cheese or a Chile relleno burrito. Also, their chips and guacamole are good.
