We’re Java Cafe, and we’ve been a coffee shop here in South Bend, IN, since 2021. We specialize in everything being made fresh in-house with vegan options, and we offer breakfast, coffee, tea, sandwiches, and more. Todd Rippo founded Java Cafe in November of 1991 as a place where he’d want to hang out: a rock n’ roll atmosphere where all are welcome, the music is a little loud, and the coffee is fresh roasted and fair trade. Thirty years later, Todd’s legacy lives on with the newest addition to the Java family. We’re looking forward to partnering with Mishawaka, Plymouth, and Goshen consumers to continue to offer a premier cafe experience. We’d like to personally invite you to stop by for one of our freshly baked pastries today!

This place has an incredible atmosphere and awesome products! I had the delicious croissant breakfast sandwich and a sugar cookie latte that was so big I couldn’t get both my hands around the cup! I definitely recommend it as a good spot to work or study. The environment is modern and elegant and at night it transforms into Sidebar, a sleek place for quiet conversations and fun drinks. 10/10 recommend!

Super cute and delicious coffee. You’re going to choke a little when you see the price, but I promise, it IS that delicious.

Comfy chairs, can be a smidge crowded at times, especially since people will park themselves at a table with their laptops. But definitely work a stop for a yummy coffee, especially if you’re looking for a better atmosphere and more comfortable chairs than chocolate cafe (which I still love, but, it has limitations)

This place is so cute — the decor is seriously next level. Hanging flowers, cozy booths, and a bar setup that looks like it came out of a design magazine. Definitely Instagram worthy.

Drinks were good, but a bit on the expensive side, and service was kinda slow. Not a huge deal if you’re just chilling or catching up with friends, but maybe not the best if you’re in a hurry.

Overall, a great vibe-y spot if you’re in the mood to treat yourself and take it slow.

My husband and I stopped into Java for the first time. We each had a breakfast croissant and it was so good! The croissant was so buttery and the thick cut bacon was delicious. It was quite busy but the staff were very nice and attentive. I can’t wait to eat there again. Highly recommend!

Be so for real right now. $11 for a tossed together breakfast croissant I couldn’t even pick up and eat, half burned? $6 for crunchy mocha powder not stirred up floating in my ice mocha? In this economy? With subpar service that got worse when I only tipped $2 on my to-go order? Atmosphere is 10/10 but won’t go back. Too many coffee places in this town to settle for this.

While doing a book tour in the area I stayed at a hotel close to this coffee shop and it was so great I went there 3 out of the 4 mornings I was here.

The coffee and breakfasts were great, nice atmosphere great service.

My uncle was with me each time and we were able to sit for hours each morning to plan our days while enjoying their great coffee cup after cup – I really love this place and wish I had a coffee shop life this where I live. I will go back anytime I’m staying in downtown south bend.

$19 for a bitter, old tasting latte and a burnt, messy sandwich. Decor and store is decorated so cute, was excited til I tasted my sandwich and coffee. Oh and don’t go if you are in a hurry, plan for a lot of extra time. Food takes a while to make which isn’t bad, but just don’t expect to be in and out!

Amazing coffee & tea selections.. they are all Fair trade, kosher, & small batch.

The young ladies at the counter are sweet enough to brighten anyone’s mood and get your day started off right!

Also, they have new vegan &/or gluten-free pastry options that are mouth-watering ☕

I am not from Indiana but come to the area often, and have recently been checking out all local coffee shops.
This one is by far my favorite. The customer service was great and friendly. The atmosphere in the building and the overall theme was awesome. I am a huge connoisseur of coffee and have been to 20+ coffee shops and the coffee alone blew my mind and is very unique flavor wise, even if you get a basic flavor like white chocolate.

The staff is fantastic, and the food is even better! The breakfast burrito was one of the best I’ve ever had—fresh, flavorful, and filling. This will definitely be a regular stop for me. Be prepared for a bit of a line on Friday mornings, but it moves quickly and is absolutely worth the wait.
