Wow the GM Adam and staff were incredible. Cam absolutely killed it with the poetry night. I LITERALLY cannot wait for the next one. The new aesthetics are incredible too, place has really turned around. Clearly the staff cares and is bringing it back to its former glory. But modern!

We were walking by and they had the door open. A wonderful band was playing and people were dancing. We went in and had a glass of wine and heard some great tunes. Thoroughly enjoyed our impromptu stop at Japp’s last night.

Cool Cocktail bar downtown Cinci with space utilized nicely. I like a little elbow room and adult atmospheres. Friendly bartenders and refreshing drinks. Always a Good stop away from the big younger crowd.

I was told to visit Japp’s by my step father before I moved to Cincinnati and although it took me a few years I finally made it and could not have had a better time! I went ~mostly~ because of Camryn’s poetry night, which I’ve never even been to a poetry reading or open mic or anything, and I just have to believe that was the best one to ever do it. Camryn was incredible and the vibes inside Japps matched just as perfectly. Loved our bartender Geoff too! Very knowledgeable about all things cocktails 🙂 Definitely will be back for Camryn’s next poetry night and to visit Geoff!

Maybe it was an off day, but this place did not live up to expectations. The ambiance inside was nice, but very empty, and a bunch of tables had dirty glassware all over them, I guess they were understaffed.

Nice older crowd for Friday night live music, but beware the inflated and dishonest drink prices. My $7.50 (according to the online drink menu) beer somehow cost me $8.90. Was informed that the actual current price is $8, and they tack on tax and a “credit card convenience” fee! Memo to nickel-and-diming purveyors everywhere: tacking on bogus fees is petty and encourages your customers to buy fewer drinks and/or go elsewhere. If you want to charge $9 for a beer, fine, but at least have the guts to fairly disclose the price.

Under Molly Wellman’s ownership, this place had a wonderfully curated feeling. It had the timeless elegance of a speakeasy, and the drinks were delicious and unique. You could spend an afternoon there reading or an evening having intimate conversation with friends. Unfortunately it has changed ownership, and during my recent visit I was disappointed to find that much of that charm is gone. Now it is loud, full of college kids, and the drinks are the standards you can get at any such place. There’s not much effort into making the place feel like anything more than a dark place for twenty-one-year-olds to get drunk. When I was there, I had a competently-made Manhattan.
