Reviews
The tofu soup was decent. Perhaps that’s what people should get when they go, but I can’t recommend the meat dishes at this point.
Food portions was comparable to buffet style and reasonable priced. Very tasty and it didn’t require me to cook it either or have the smell on my body and clothes. Will be returning again in the future!
Look at how much food we got for under $40. I’d say this place is doing great things and will be making others regret their high buffet prices.
5 points the this place should be shut down and never come back !!!
⚠️1 • The waitress literally told us to “scream or write a Google review.”
No apology. No solution. Just attitude. Like… what!? You don’t want to work just go HOME
⚠️2• Rotten shrimp.
Not “bad taste” – actually spoiled you can get food poisoning here easily
⚠️3• Dumplings soaked in oil like they were deep-fried.
I had to wipe them with a napkin terrible food that can be easily done
⚠️4 • Food went to the wrong table, and I already wait my food for 30 minutes. Fried Chicken came after we were FULL.
⚠️5• No manager. No responsibility. No reason to ever come back.
Let’s talk about the food first. The shrimp was spoiled, and the dumplings were drenched in oil — I literally had to dab them with napkins before eating. But the worst part? There was no manager on-site to handle complaints. Honestly, just shut this whole place down. If you don’t want to waste your time, there are plenty of better Korean restaurants in Katy or Chinatown. I genuinely have no idea what that waitress thought she was doing. The order of dishes made no sense, either. My family and I ordered two tofu stews, two sets of dumplings, and Korean fried chicken.
First, the dumplings were disgustingly greasy. Then we had to wait 25 minutes just to get our tofu stews — and get this: our rice and egg were sent to the wrong table, and we had to wait another 10 minutes. When we complained, the waitress boldly told us to just go leave a bad Google review or yell in the restaurant. Like, really? If you hate your job that much, maybe just don’t show up to work.
To top it all off, the fried chicken came out last after nearly 30 minutes — by which time we were already full and frustrated.
To anyone considering this place: don’t bother. Head to Katy or Chinatown instead – way better options, and you won’t be treated like a nuisance just for being a customer.
All their dishes are very reasonably priced & come with their standard 6 sides of fish cakes, mashed potatoes, seaweed wraps & a variety of kimchi vegetables. This time I had their kimchi tofu & dumpling soup which came out bubbling hot & served with a heaping bowl of rice…all for a bargain price of $11.95.
Everytime I’ve eaten here the food has been very hot & fresh & the staff very sweet, professional & accommodating. You also save 5% if you pay in cash. All in all Jang Guem has been my go-to casual Korean spot for quite some time now in the Houston area. Their dishes are often better than Korean restaurants that are 2-3 times their price point.
I’ve visited multiple times over the years and have consistently noticed how chaotic the workflow is. Employees often seem unsure of what to do, which negatively impacts the overall experience. There needs to be a clearer system for managing tickets, tables, and service flow.
I genuinely want to love this restaurant, but unfortunately the quality of service has declined significantly over time. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works toward improving organization and customer experience.
The service and wait time has gone down. They are slow, and no longer have the Hispanic lady that used to run the place and keep everything under control. She was the only one keeping the place intact. Now it’s just a buncha young workers who are super slow and doesn’t have customer service awareness.
We waited 30 mins for our food. They never asked us if everything was okay. The tables weren’t cleaned. Noone is on the floor checking on customers. They just stand behind the counter and wipe down bowls and utensils, while the place has like 8 tables. Just 2 young guys roaming around like slugs. I wish they would get the hard workers back. This place could be so much better if it provided the better service and wait time.
