Reviews
So we both ordered a drink to start out. I had a split rose champagne and he tried the Starmont. The bread was tasty and the butter that we have heard so much about was also delicious. Wish we had kept the butter on the table to add to our bread that came with the 1st course. My boyfriend said he wished he had ordered beer to start and wine with the steak too.
Course 1:We both had the Duck Rillettes, it was good but was missing something. I tried adding little slices of the mini pickles that came with it but again was missing something and we also felt we could have just ordered 1 and shared. We thought adding the butter to the little slices of toast would have helped it, not that the duck wasn’t flavorful because it was, it just was missing something like a light sauce with the toast.
Course 2: I had the Coquilles St. Jacques or the scallops. They were very tasty and the sauce was delicious. I couldn’t figure out if the hint of seasoning/spice was from the sauce or the scallops themselves. I was surprised by the mushrooms in the sauce as I don’t really like them and would like to have known about them from the menu’s description. I ended up picking most of them out. I also couldn’t eat the broccoli because they were overly salted. Seemed like the mini florets had been rolled in salt after being cooked. He ordered the A5 Wagyu 8 oz filet cooked med. This was a mystery to us because we started to think he may have gotten the wrong steak as the Chef did call out for someone to run food quickly and maybe as they handed out the steaks around the restaurant they may have been mixed up as one lady did have to wait some time for her steak to come out. The sides were tasty as the potato wedges were perfectly cooked and tasted delicious in my leftover sauce from my scallops. The asparagus was tender as well. The steak on the other hand for a filet had way too much fat and seemed like it may have been the ribeye but definitely wasn’t 16 oz as advertised on the menu. The flavor from the beef tallow and bone marrow was delicious and definitely added some flavor but the steak was a little over cooked. Due to the size and shape of steak and cooked temp (med well) made us feel like it definitely wasn’t the correct cut of meat ordered. A little disappointed as his hopes were high for trying an A5 Wagyu and said he has had better steak at another local restaurant in the Sunset, LA area. I wished I had taken a photo of this item but missed it.
Course 3: another course we felt like we could have shared as we were very full at this point. I had the Strawberry Pavlova and he had the Dark Chocolate Crème Brûlée. The strawberry pavlova was okay, strawberries were very fresh and tasty but we both thought the meringue round was a little odd texture and flavor and we didn’t love it. For the crème brûlée we both felt it could have been better too. The sugar had not been toasted to glass before serving and the “brownie” was the soft served brownie bites from Target. (We saw the box in the dish area and the workers snacking on them during the meal) the chocolate cream was very rich and I only had a bite as it was more than enough. He said the brownie bite was fresh and very soft.
Over all the meal did take quite some time to be prepared and go out and we felt like some things could have been prepared before to make things go more smoothly and quickly. We arrived at 6:38pm and departed at 10:05.
We did enjoy our server, he was knowledgeable of the restaurant’s history and gave good advice. He was also very attentive to our table.
Our bill came out to be $305 before the tip.
Some seem to have skewed expectations of this establishment, as is clear in a few reviews. This is french fine dining. The french eat very leisurely and slowly. You should not come ready for a plate in front of you immediately. Enjoy the company you have. Not a restaurant for picky eaters. You are not going to get the average lafayette restaurant experience here. I’m quite frankly shocked at any less optimal reviews. You cannot reasonably judge a gem for not being a rock.
On our recent visit the food was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was plated like a piece of art and balanced with bold yet refined flavors. You could taste the chef’s creativity and commitment to quality in every bite. The pacing between courses was perfect, allowing enough time to savor without ever feeling rushed.
The staff deserves special praise. They were knowledgeable, attentive without hovering, and genuinely passionate about the menu. Their wine pairing recommendations elevated the entire meal and showcased an impressive understanding of flavor and presentation.
By the time dessert arrived, it was clear this restaurant doesn’t just serve food, it delivers an experience. Luxurious, memorable, and meticulously executed from start to finish. This is the type of place you find yourself thinking about long after the meal is over.
Highly recommend for anyone looking to celebrate, impress, or simply indulge in an extraordinary night out.
The food is amazing, unlike anything else available around here. Eating out can be pricey but this felt like it was actually worth it. It’s very romantic and unique, it’s becoming our special occasion location.
Being inside this time was very intimate as the tables are close together. We didn’t hear anything unpleasant from the kitchen, and I think next time we may sit where we can watch the chef. If the weather allows, sitting in the courtyard is also an excellent experience.
Overall, we really enjoy Jane’s. The people who didn’t maybe didn’t know what to expect. Slow down, savor the cuisine and the company, and enjoy.
First place I’ve been to in Lafayette and I am so happy I drove by.
The food was extremely thoughtful, while creating a modern take on traditional French cuisine.
The soup I had was just incredible – the most comforting and flavorful starter. It was incredibly smooth, the texture was so admirable.
The lamb shake was perfect, falling off the bone and massive in size – you could share it. The sauce was the perfect amount of salty for the pairing potatoes and ratatouille.
The dessert also, so comforting and the perfect end. Not too sweet and everything on the dish paired so perfect together.
The bread at the beginning of the meal is also perfect – the best butter ever.
Cheers to Hannah – she is fantastic. I very much will be back!
(To note – the menu is PERFECT for the winter season, it was like a hug)
We came to Jane’s this evening to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The food was excellent.
Everything else was not. Your loud, harsh treatment of the staff was clearly audible in the dining room the entire evening. What should have been a celebratory night felt stressful and uncomfortable.
The food deserves better than an environment like that. So do your guests and your staff. Do better.
To anyone interested in dining here- come for the food- I suggest sitting outside.
