This place really exceeded my expectations.
Everything was good! Really wish I had given them a try sooner.. The fish steak was ahhhhmazing, so much bang for your buck. The wing platter and cornbread also hit. My tiniest dislike was the consistency of the potato salad but it was still tasty.. will be ordering again soon.

I’ve wanted to try Jamillah’s Garden since it first opened and had lines out the door. Today, I ordered the fish hoagie, which is what everyone talks about. I was impressed.
The whiting was perfectly cooked: moist, flakey, indulgent Omega-3 fatty acid goodness. Crunchy exterior, golden brown and speckled with seasoning. It was light and crisp, like real Philly-style soul food. I really don’t know why so many places insult their customers with heavy-battered thick and eggy coating, or worse, yellow corn meal dust that tastes like old fryer oil. Jamillah’s does it right. Their fried whiting is truly soulful.
The hoagie is served with cheese, which is unnecessary because it doesn’t really add anything, but it doesn’t detract either. Of course, there’s shredded lettuce and sliced tomato. And they squirt it with this sweet and tangy sauce that’s almost like a Cajun remoulade.
Everything is stuffed into a whole wheat long roll that can barely contain the oversized portion. Seriously, this sandwich is huge. Big enough to feed two people. But it’s so good that you’ll want to finish it yourself.
I went with my teenaged son. He ordered a cheesesteak hoagie. His review: it’s gasss!! !!!
To be clear, I’m usually wary of anyplace that advertises “soul food.” Usually, it means everything will be blanketed in Lawry’s seasoning salt and overcooked until it’s hard and dry, until you can’t distinguish what you’re even eating, and then, they cook it some more to make sure there’s no moisture left anywhere. Not Jamillah’s. They know heat and fire. They know herbs and spices.
What else do you need to know? The service was super friendly. Even the cooks went out of their way to say hello and make sure we weren’t waiting too long. Of course, there’s no ambience, but that’s okay, it’s a take out place.
I’ll definitely be going back. I want to try the platters. I want to try the side dishes. I bet they make real-deal collard greens.
Go. Don’t hesitate. This place will satiate your soul food cravings.

You know your food was good when you decide to make a review!! I have to give thanks to whoever hands made my Fish Hoagie!! Best fish hoagie I had in life hands down.. fish was cooked just right, bread was fresh and the flavor was there without being too seasoned!! Make sure u try it with the special sauce.. thank me later lol 10/10 for the fish hoagie

Yams was good but I’m really pissed The Salmon was rubbery like it was frozen
I only eat at sit down restaurants because of this particular reason , and I normally ask it is fresh or frozen. I’m a huge fan of fresh food especially fish!
I’m so disappointed!
But will give another try and order something different….. Every place deserves another chance.

Food started off good but now the food is horrible. I had a fried fish platter with Mac and cheese and collard greens. The fish was soggy and tasteless. It was dark like the grease needed to be changed. The Mac was dry and separated like it was old and no cheese in it. I tried to give them a play since I don’t have many soul food places around me, but no I am good. Will not be back.

Idk why the ratings are so low. I decided to try Jamillahs on Ubereats and lo have no regrets at all! I got a baked chicken platter with Mac n greens, while I only added hot sauce to my greens, everything else was PERFECT the chicken falling of the bone, the Mac nice and creamy and flavorful and that cornbread BOYYYY that cone bread! Lol if you thinking about giving them a try, DO IT

Food is fresh and delicious. I had the Rib platter, with greens and Smack and Cheese., The ribs was so tender, the meat fell off the bone. I also tried the cabbage. I love the cabbage more then the greens, but overall everythijg was good. THE BREAD PUDDING is really good. The cheesecake is too. The amount of food they give u, can feed up to 2 people. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant was clean.

The cabbage was sweet and watery. The greens taste like they came from out of a can. The chicken wings tasted real old, like they were sitting all day and refried several times. The candy yams taste okay. The cornbread was the best thing. Will not order again. The food really was not good. The mac and cheese was not good. Must have gave me this scrap from the pan because it was loose very little cheese and not really bonded together like mac and cheese should be. They forgot my potato salad but I’m glad I didn’t get it because it probably wouldn’t have taste good either. Was very disappointed because they got so many good reviews. Must have been a very bad day cannot waste my money on bad days. Will not go again. This was at Old York road.
