We had a truly wonderful time at Jameson’s Charhouse inside the DoubleTree by Hilton in Skokie back in January (life got hectic, so this review is a bit delayed, but the memory is still fresh!). The highlight was hands-down John, the incredible bartender, he’s knowledgeable, fine gentleman, friendly, and really makes you feel welcome.
They have a very fine selection of whiskeys, and John steered us perfectly with his suggestions. We stuck to the bar area and ordered some great food right there as we followed his sincere suggestions; everything was delicious and hit the spot. Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, this place is absolutely worth stopping in for a drink or a bite.
We enjoyed some top-notch whiskey pours, including Old Forester, and John crafted really well-balanced classics: an outstanding Old Fashioned and Manhattan that were spot-on in flavor and execution. Highly recommend pulling up a stool at the bar next time you’re in the area; it’s a hidden gem for whiskey lovers and anyone looking for quality cocktails and eats in a relaxed, upscale setting.

What a great restaurant. Food, service, and staff are top notch. Filet couldn’t have been cooked more to perfection. Excellent cocktails and wine also. Try the carrot cake, absolutely amazing. Dennis explained the Greek history of the dessert. Several locations in the Chicago area. I have only tried the Skokie location and I’ll definitely be going back.

It was my brother-in-law’s birthday, and we arrived promptly at 7:10 pm to place our order for steak. Despite our specific request for a medium-well cook on our steak, it unfortunately arrived well done. The texture was rather tough and chewy, and the wait time was quite lengthy. It took a full hour for our meals to be served, and by 8:40, our two hungry children were becoming quite restless. Our server appeared fatigued and somewhat impolite, giving the impression that she may not have been in the best of spirits that day. Nevertheless, we left a tip not necessarily due to the quality of service, but out of consideration. We believe that a tip should be given in anticipation of good service. While the steak was acceptable, we still expected a higher level of service. It is unclear how many tables our server was responsible for, but the service provided was not particularly accommodating. The slow pace of service was rather frustrating. There is certainly room for improvement.

Jameson Char House does not let you down—and unfortunately, not in a good way.
We ordered a rare prime rib and specifically asked whether the kitchen could char it, since they advertise a live-fire char grill. When the food arrived, what we were served was a well-done, steamed piece of meat. It was extremely underwhelming.
We had already mentioned to the bartender, Junior, that the last time we dined there the kitchen didn’t get it right, and asked him to confirm with the kitchen beforehand. If they couldn’t do it, that would have been fine. The issue is agreeing to the request and then delivering a severely overcooked dish. When the food arrived, Junior clearly noticed what he was serving us, yet we received no follow-up. When he eventually checked in and we explained that the steak was not what we ordered and was badly overcooked, he took the situation very personally—despite previously stating that front-of-house staff should never take these things personally.
We asked for the check, and the steak was still listed on the bill. When we asked for the steak to be removed from the check, Junior sent us to speak with a manager rather than resolving the issue himself. When we spoke with the manager, he snatched the check out of my husband’s hand, told us not to come back because they “clearly can’t get the food right for us,” and asked us to leave—all because the kitchen overcooked a prime rib.
This situation should have been handled with grace and professionalism, not defensiveness.
This is exactly why we choose Capital Grille over any other restaurant. Their entire staff—especially their manager Melody—consistently goes out of their way to ensure guests receive the best possible food and service.

The food was outstanding! I was in a party of 6 and Everyone enjoyed their meals. Personally, I thought the ribeye was too for for and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. Others enjoyed the Filet Mignon, Mediterranean Chicken, the Jameson Burger, French Onion Soup, Manhattan Clam Chowder, and the salad. The smaller was nice and all in our party of 6 couId be heard while conversing. I knocked down the service because we were only checked on once very briefly. My wife and I have dined at Jameson’s Charhouse, and have consistently enjoyed the food and staff. Yesterday the 29th of October was our anniversary, commemorating fifty four years of marriage. We were greeted pleasantly by the hostess, seated and the gentleman bringing the water kindly raised the window shade so we could enjoy the sunset. Our waitress Juliana patiently waited for us to decide on everything from drinks to appetizers, and finally our dinner selections. She checked back frequently to insure everything was satisfactory, and took every request pleasantly and professionally. Before ordering desert my wife informed her we were treating ourselves for our anniversary. It wasn’t until we entered our purchase on our register that we realized the dessert was complimentary. Pleasantly surprised we felt certain of our choice for dining. On the way out another employee wished us a happy anniversary, and we left feeling the warmth of every person working there. We will most assuredly be back.

Food was great. The service was excellent. Our server was attentive and friendly. Dinner hours do get busy so be prepared for a wait if you do not have a reservation. The Ribeye steak was great. It came out perfectly cooked. The cream of potato soup was very good. The mashed potatoes were delicious. The meal also comes with a side salad along with the soup and choice of side with your steak. Prices are fair and much cheaper than you would pay at a traditional steak house. The quality of the meat is great. The drinks are strong and flavorful. You get a lot of food for a great price; I spent about $100 for dinner and a drink for two including tip. I would recommend this restaurant. Parking is ample. Restaurant is clean.

We decided to give Jameson’s Original Charhouse a try while on a business trip. We visited on a Tuesday evening so the place was pretty dead. Our waiter Dino was super attentive. I ordered the 28 oz. Ribeye with a wedge salad & veggies (pictured) The steak was cooked to perfection and full of flavor! My sister ordered mac n cheese as her side and none of us liked it. It tasted very basic. I have recommended this spot to others because the steak is one of a kind!
